Which came first?

Anger or compassion.

can't edit "development" in the poll question.

First post - anger

Both would have occurred at the same time. Altruism was well evolved by the point that humans came around.

I'm having a hard time understanding the question. Both emotions have always been possible since you identified the species man (homo sapiens; including women [the other gender] and the concept of child [the undeveloped man or woman]) and species retain the same potential for development throughout their existence.

So, "which came first?" may refer to which emotion was developed before the other because of its importance or it may refer to which one were human most aware of in the beginning of the species. An indication to this may possibly be seen in modern culture and through analyzing social class differences. With the presumption that both these emotions may be independent from each other.

However, one cannot easily isolate them enough to argue that one came before the other. The mother and father have a relationship with their son/daughter that may denote compassion, but readily so this compassion may increase anger whenever someone interferes with their sons (or daughter) success.

So neither came first in man, but if you go back a few species/genus you might find a solution. Just like the chicken/egg.

Biblically, I guess anger, cause God was angered at Adam and Eve.
Compassion is alot like empathy, and the first feeling of pain was AFTER Adam and Eve left the garden.

Biblically it would be compassion..."It is not good for man to be alone."

not understanding how that as a Christian, it wouldn't be compassion/love.

God has both and has always been;what did he experience first? Is there a need for compassion in heaven? He was angry with satan and those that followed him.Adam and Eve would have experienced anger first I think when they sinned.I don't see any need for compassion before sin in mankind. oops just now saw the development of man part....I say anger when they fell.

Compassion because before there was anger there was only compassion.

"First" implies "in time" and since God exists outside time, they have to have existed equally.
