Never thought I'd be posting in here...
...but I'm joining the Guard. It took 11 years of thinking and debating, but better late than never, right?
MEPS in early August, basic in October, OCS in January, then OBC. Since Uncle Sam is still keeping me out of combat arms I'm looking at chemical corps and transportation.

It sure did.
I'm pretty sure the guard is 35 right now.

Cus she's a woman
Which doesn't actually matter that much any more seeing as how the "non combat" arms get shwacked all the time.

Mechanics are supposed to be "non combat", even though we go out on convoys and get hit and ambushed.

There are plenty of women that patrol with combat arms units, they just don't hold the ca MOSs. Nice to see someone else going guard, we are a minority on the forums since everyone is bailing to go active.
women MPs..

I had a nice chat with a colonel last Friday about the MOSs I was looking at. He was very informative, and I'm sure the drinks and bonfire had nothing to do with it. :]
I'm a state-certified emergency manager, so the guard fits into that better than the active army. I seriously thought about going active, though. I also thought about MP, but chemical will be useful for emergency management stuff. Plus I have a thing for CBRNE.

I personally know two Marine CBRN guys that have their combat action ribbons. Most of the time, from what I've seen, CBRN never does their job but does a bunch of others.

Anyone who has to leave the wire periodically is at risk of getting hit.

Haha. That's the difference in branches. My bf is the ops officer for the CBRNE response team and its his full-time job in the guard. Technically he's not in the chemical corps, though; he's an engineer, so that's what he gets deployed as.

Which, ironically, is why I decided to join now and didn't 11 years ago.

So, you didn't enlist earlier before because of the war, and the possibility of being killed? Or did did I get that wrong.
Dont take that as a stab at your courage. But im just curious. Your still doing it, and I commend you for it.
