Chuck Hendsch's Official Response to USPL Prize Modifications

Official Response from Chuck Hendsch:
Hi,

As stated on the website under the prize section the prizes will be reduced 30% as we have under 75 teams.
We are still giving away over 30,000 to the D1, D2 and D3. Pros do not receive prize money.

I hope you understand as the cost of putting on events is very costly even when we use traditional paintball parks instead of stadiums.

Hope to see you out there.

Best Regards,

Chuck Hendsch
Commissioner
US Paintball League

I think even the players would have to agree that less=more events

I'd rather see them lower the prize money than pay out more than they're taking in and go bankrupt after only a couple seasons.

I seriously doubt that over paying in prizes for one event would cause them to file for bankruptcy. If they started overpaying now, they probably wouldn't be completely screwed until 2010.

Reducing the prize package because they have 71 teams instead of 75 seems like they are splitting hairs. Really bummed that Chuck & co took the opportunity to back out at the last minute. I'd be willing to wager that alot of the teams are going to be upset when they find out that the prizes were cut when they arrive at the event.

Why not support the divisional players and live up to the advertising? After all the confusion with the event schedule, rosters, brand name and referees, this seems like a perfect opportunity for the league to "make good" on their promises and support those that support them. Alternatively, if the league continues on the same track its may quickly become known as a series that over promises and under delivers; which ultimately, is bad for paintball.

Sounds pretty stupid to me. It costs money to play but you don't win anything?

Theres a rumor the pro teams own the league. Although they don't collect prizes, they do make money on all divisions entry fees.

If I'm wrong, somebody say something.

The league is owned and run by professional teams and the goal is to encourage paintball playing on the tournament level. Its actually a really smart idea. The pro's have a vested interest in making sure your team competes and furthermore, succeeds. At the Huntington Beach event, teams that played had the opportunity to select a pro player from one of the teams to help coach them and walk the fields *for free*. Cool!

Something.

If the league made money, the investors would receive some return on their investment. If the league does not, they will not. To date, they have not received anything.
