Rock n roll is a broad genre. It's like in 30 years there'll be radio stations playing classic rap. What is classic rap? The same thing would have been asked 30 years ago about rock.

Who defines them as classic? Most radio stations just play the same songs over and over, with Hotel California playing on classic rock stations like 3-4 times a day. So your music selection is based on quantitative equations which calculate the sales of singles and the chart position with the year it was released.

This inevitably makes many of the "classic rock" of the time to be undervalued.

Then if only they have years in common, does that provide enough sense to group Led Zeppelin with Neil Young? Or Billy Joel with Jethro Tull?

Like if I listen to Bob Dylan and because of the curiosity I listen to people in the same genre as folk, hey I'm liking this Woody Guthrie character.

But if I listen to Neil Young and listen to other people in "Classic rock," it doesn't follow that I'm necessarily going to like them or find any similarities. The genre is just too broad.

These are my arguments as to why I don't like the term "classic rock."

I know many of those guys still play, but you know what I mean. The music they wrote and played is better than anything I've heard anybody churn out in the '00's.

I love it! Queen, Boston, and Pink Floyd are my favorites. Believe it or not, I can't stand much of AC/DC or Led Zepplin. In fact, I doubt I spelled Led Zepplin's name right.

"classic rock" isn't half as ambiguous as "jazz" or "metal" so idk what you're on about

it's all music, let's not overlabel things
