I love him. It's hard to play fast and remain tasteful, and for me, he does both.

In my opinion, I think he is currently the best guitar player in the world. With that, I mean the actual playing, combined with the music. Not sure if I would consider him my favorite of all time, but certainly in my top 5.

I think a lot of people peg him as a "tasteless shredder" because he plays guitar rock, where tastelessness tends to be a little rampant. He's not really all that overindulgent, usually though.

I know some people who met him at clinics and said he was a hell of a guy. I think him and Paul Gilbert both would be totally cool to hang out with away from guitars.

I ****ing loved him with Zappa, although that's mostly because I ****ing love Zappa. I listen to "For the love of god" every once in a while, and for the most part I enjoy him. He just seems like the kind of guy who's in tune with his instrument, pun not intended.

He does have those big ol' spider fingers. Poor guy probably has a small wiener to balance it out.

I got screwed. I have small fingers, and a small wiener.

I heard he's a nice guy, and he's definitely talented as a guitarist. He's worn a unitard with sequins at one point, though...

I even enjoy high school jazz concerts and stay all the way through. They would have to pull me out of the building at a Vai concert.

Likewise.

Mechanix just only gets off to horrible, overdone shredding, not beautiful and well balanced Steve Vai shredding.

I can watch/listen to shredding in the same way I can watch someone juggle. Yeah, it's pretty cool for a short period of time and takes a lot of practice, but I don't really have the desire to do it.

The only reason I want to be able to play at a fast speed, is for some cover tunes I want to do, and for my own ideas; to be able to express them. I get cool riffs in my head, that I can't physically play yet.
