hollowpiontv2/qev dilemma

okay, so i have a hollowpiont bolt v2 in a 5.1 body. when i use a clippard qev with it, it ocassionally breaks a ball about an inch into the barrell, i turned the air down to 100 psi and dwell up to 22(blackheart board) to try to soften the blow, but it's still too fast/harsh. if i remove the qev the bolt will just do these funny little short strokes 4-5mm,seems to be venting alot of air through the bottom of the soleniod. i've messed with the the dwell, anywhere from 6 to 50, recharge rate, i've tried different air pressures and boards, stock, blackheart and a virtue. no it's not the battery, the regs fine. all i do is switch the qev for a banjo, reset the dwell and it happens. help, please and thanks.

The hollowpoint v2 is so light and moves so fast that sometimes if you use a QEV with it will do exactly what you say it is doing. Take the QEV off and put the banjo back on, reset your dwell and you are good to go.

After you replace the QEV with the banjo, did you reset the dwell?

Please don't come in here and be rude to people that are trying to help you.

Unless it was edited in after the fact.

You do realize that Colin recommends you DO NOT use a QEV with the HPv2, right?

that's basically what i'm getting at, if i use a qev it brakes balls! but if i don't my bolt won't move more then 4-5mm even after resetting the dwell, the reg pressure, trying a new board, 7 different new batteries. so how do i get my bolt to move without a qev. the banjo is fine.

You 100% sure the banjo isn't plugged up with old lube or anything?

You can boil it to be sure.

From what you're saying I'm thinking it has to be, if not, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Are you using this method to set your dwell?

  1. Pressurize your Ion at whatever input pressure you wish to use. We suggest between 150-180 psi, depending on the internals. The following steps involve you dry-firing the marker (firing it without paint).
  2. Lower the dwell setting to the minimum (or an extremely low setting, such as 5 blinks with the stock board, or 8 milliseconds with an aftermarket board).
  3. Gradually increase dwell until the marker begins to fully cycle. When the marker has trouble cycling, the sound of the bolt firing will be muffled and sound erratic, denoting inconsistencies. When you reach the point where it fully cycles, the marker will make a loud POP for each shot you take, with minimal sound difference between the shots.
  4. Once the Ion is fully cycling, increase the dwell another 4-6 blinks (2-3 milliseconds with aftermarket board), and that will be your dwell setting.

yes i did say that the banjo is fine, yes i'm setting the dwell correct, i own 5 ions, 3 are totally aftermarket, one is the feb ion of the month, built and repaired way to many to count. it's my first go at a hollowpiont though and it's just a really weird thing that's happening. and i'm at a loss for what the cause is.

Me too.

Honestly though, have you tried a different banjo? Saying it's fine because you think it should be, and knowing for a fact that it's fine are two different things.

Am I supposed to be super impressed that you won feb IOTM? All that shows is that you can screw parts together, it doesn't prove knowledge.

You don't have to try turning everything into a pissing contest, as you have replied to every suggestion with a reason why their advice is somehow below you.

agreed with spug. and really? people are trying to help here.

try borrowing a 360 qev and then setting the dwell. the 360 doesn't flow as well as the clippard qev's so you may not experience any paint breakage.
