D4 5man Team - EDGE - Paintball PLEX & Trademygun.com - Tryout
EDGE now has a D3 5man, D3 Xball, and USPL D2 7man team. We need/want to form a D4 5man team for 2009 Chicago and World Cup. As we look into the 2010 season we expect to have a D2 Xball team, D3 Xball, D3 5man, and D4 5man team - and possibly a 7 man team.
In order to keep our program loaded with top talent we need to start a feeder team for 2010 D3..... and keep that going every year. We need a D4 5man team now.
Requirements -
- Mandatory weekly practice (sometimes twice/week) - typically Saturday night and/or Sunday.
- Desire to play the National tournament scene for the next 2-4 years.
- Good Sportsmanship and "Gel" with teammates
Sponsorship by Paintball PLEX and Trademygun -
Practice: You will get discounts but it is not free. Our highest division team gets the best deals. Entry fee is $10 and paint is discounted to employee prices (typically $34/case for new paint). Plex paint will be available for you to buy at $15/case.
Events: Cost per National event per person will be $250-$300. We will roster 6 on this team. This will cover entry, paint, and hotel room for the national events. You will be responsible for transportation to the event (normally register on Friday and play Saturday/Sunday).
TRYOUT DATE - This Saturday Night at 7PM and/or This Sunday Morning at 10AM.
PM me with your background if you plan on attending.
Practice Schedule for D4 5man (the selected 6) team leading up to Chicago Open:
May 30th 7PM-10PM
June 6th 7PM-10PM
June 13th 7PM-10PM
June 14th 10AM Scrimmage
June 20th 7PM-10PM
June 21st 10AM Scrimmage
Register in Chicago Thursday June 25th for Fri-Sun session.
You will be practicing with tough teams and should plan on getting your stuff pushed in every week. This will make our D4 team excel above most other teams that don't have this weekly practice/scrimmage advantage.
If you plan on giving me excuses for any regular conflict - don't bother trying out. Any regular or unexcused miss of practice and you'll be off the team.
I hope to see you this weekend.
Thanks
Mike

This is without a doubt one of the most amazing opportunities you can be involved with in paintball. Our program is developing quickly and coming along strong, and I think soon we will start producing some podium finishes at national events. If you want a chance to potentially work your way up through the divisions with a solid team program, you'll want to come tryout for this squad! Mike is a great guy to work with and will do what it takes to make these teams win. Look forward to seeing some of you out at practice this weekend.

Yes Im sure this would be great, that is unless you have kids, a job, or live an hour away. I think it would be great to have the chance to play for a well organized team but making everything mandatory no matter what is pushing it. After all I would think that the majority of people who could meet your finance and gear requirements are going to be more in the adult range rather then younger players. Im not trying to be ****ty because I love the plex and think it is very well ran but it seems a bit much especially for your lowest division team.

we actually have a guy on the team that has kids, a job, and lives close to an hour away and he still is able to make all the practices and events. It might cost a bit, but it is totally worth it. These kids will be able to get great practices and make it through the ranks very quickly. I would strongly urge anyone interested in playing at a national level to do this.

I expect this team to be my D3 team next year so we might as well start off on the right foot....and yes it is (I am) demanding and likely not for everyone.
Thanks

I understand completly for Mike being demanding -- for everything he is doing for his players and the opportunity he is giving them, he has to be. I myself would love to be there for this also but my current life situation wont allow it. So Mike keep giving out the opportunity's and maybe someday ill be able to take part in it.
Keep It Up Edge and Plex .. !!!

If you cant meet the demands, you obviously arent committed or dedicated enough to WANT to win and play at a National level. To win you MUST meet demands, and have what it takes to meet them. Some people just dont have and never will have what it takes.
I thought I did, but in the long run, Ive found Im more useful off the field than on. I met the mandatory practice schedule all winter long. All the while living on UNEMPLOYMENT. It may not sound bad, but when your unemployed...you gotta watch what you spend, where you go.
Mike is giving Indiana an amazing chance to play competitively at the National level, which other than a very few teams have ever had a chance to do this.

I am dedicated to winning and getting better. I agree that teams need to practice to get better I was just saying that twice a week was a bit much. I dont have a problem with money. I can buy and pay for whatever I want. My thing is that Sundays are a big deal. There is nothing more important than church and family. But that is enough ranting. I wish everyone who tries out the best.

I completely understand that weekly practice isn't possible for everyone - especially if you have kids. I think the reason most teams are made up of younger players is due to the ability of the youngsters to do more of "what I want" versus "what others want/need".
Anyhow - reality is that this team is paying their own way and I will provide the structure and facilities to help make it a solid team.
I don't expect to win events but I do expect a 100% effort to win. I also expect a 100% dedication to our facility.
Most teams will take a break this year after World Cup - we'll start our winter training for the 2010 season. We seriously should have the best teams in the Midwest in 1 to 2 years. Think about it ..... Indoor and Outdoor 365 days of play opportunity per year.

Trust me guys, you don't want to miss out on this opportunity. I wish this program would have been around when I first started playing. This is an AMAZING chance to develop as an individual and to greatly improve your playing skills. It's been a blessing so far for me and I'm sure others would agree.
