Are Palmer's markers worth it?

Right now I'm shooting Phantom. OC and SC. I am looking at getting a Palmer's Typhoon, PUG, or a Super Stocker. Do all of you pump experts think a Palmers is the way to go?

It's all personal preference so yeah... it is worth it if it's worth it to you.

My stockclass pumps are a Phantom and a Mini Buzzard... if I had the cash I'd pick up a PPS SS too.

I would love to own a Palmers. The people that own them swear by them. I just dont have the money for one. The one big difference that you will notice going from a phantom to a palmers is that a palmers will be a bit heavier...

Ok, I was just looking for a few of there models, the only place I can find to buy is their site. There outrageously expensive! I looked on ebay, but no luck. Any suggestions as to where to buy?

Purely an opinionated answer, as only you can decide if it's worth the $$$$ to spend it on a 'custom' built marker.

Now, I DO have a classic long barrel Pug. Not because it's Palmers, and not because they are inherrently better because of such, but because P68SCs are my absolute dream guns, but the long barrel Pug fixes the drawbacks of P68SCs. I also got it for a great price... $70 and a P68SC.

It depends on your style.

Palmer guns simply aren't as versatile (or cost-effective) as other platforms. They're more of a niche gun, and while some people love them, others feel quite the opposite.

CCM and Carter aren't cost effective either, its the same thing with the Palmers as it is with them you are paying for a premium product. I would say that yes they are worth the money but don't expect it to out do the cheaper stuff in anything but quality and feel.

Having owned 7 or 8 palmer's markers now, the last being a brand new pyre I wouldn't recommend buying a new gun from them. There quality has been slipping as of late and until they get there acts together i wouldn't buy a new gun.

for example my pyre when i got it didn't work at all. The sear had to be adjusted because it wouldn't catch the hammer. Then after i got that sorted out i found out the barrel was out of round from their widgiting process. The two things apart weren't that big of a deal. But together it proved there was no way anybody even tested my gun before leaving the shop.

Bottom line if you want a palmers gun buy an older used one. The quality was better and you you know exactly what your getting if the seller is reputable.

Yeah, I didn't want to mention the slipping QC.

As for comparing them to Carter and CCM... I really feel that both of those companies (and their respective products) are a step above Palmer's stuff, and are typically closer to something a person is comfortable shooting without the price skyrocketing from base. They still use that awful single-screw grip frame (I can't play with one comfortably) and have no readily available barrel kit options (proven to be more effective), just a dented barrel which is extra heavy and very expensive.

The bottomline (in my opinion) is that Palmer's have sort of a niche market that they've been pandering to for a long time. I'm not sure how they've survived as long as they have this way, but since they're fairly honest and make some quality parts, I'd rather not see them go under.

Well, I meant I'm not sure how their market has stayed strong enough to keep them alive, but I will agree, they are generally fairly well-built.

It is all preference - but I think for the money there are much better performing markers out there.

However, if you like the Sheridan platform - there is nothing better than Palmers.

I have no input on the QC front as it has been years since I have owned a Palmers.

Yeah, their regs are good for certain uses, I'll agree to that. I do feel like there are plenty of regs that work better for paintball play, though.

Actually few, if any, work better than Rocks. Remember Rocks are the LPRs and for a while they were synonymous with aftermarket LPR. They have dominated that market since day 1 and I'd bet Rocks are still their best-selling products.

PPS love em or hate em.

Ive had more then few (BZ, palmerized KP, Nasty phoon, LB stroker and a PGP converted stroker). The BZ was a great gun and with the pump kit it flat out rocked, The PGP converted stroker was/is insane It is the only one that ill never sell. The others though were lame ducks, They just lacked the reliability that most PPS gear has.

If it matters any I only have the PGP stroker anymore.

I am lusting for a nasty springfed painter though.

Would it be cheaper to buy a PGP, and have it converted?

cheaper than what?

your best bet is to find a micro up for sale and buy that one.
the time frame alone might dissuade you from doing the conversion.
