Using a good quality "wet" lube, like some nice dow grease, is almost always better than using silicon spray. Silicon sprays were created to replace the use of oil or grease in the hard to reach mechanical areas or those areas that would be enclosed. So basically if you can service the area, grease or oil is the best choice, but if its hard to reach or going to be sealed up until it breaks down, people tend to use silicon sprays... It's your call, some people swear by silicon spray, but i think they're messy and not as good as a tube of dow.
