Well to start my set up is a Nikon D60 with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 and as far as my software I am using Lightroom 2 . The reason the pix look like they do is because they are on myspace if those are the ones you are talkin about . Myspace compress's them so much they look like crap and I hate it same goes with the ones on here photobucket is just as bad. As far as the colors go they will be different on everyone monitors unless eveyone has a monitor calibrator. If you saw the original's it would be night and day....

I know you weren't attacking him... I was just saying that the things you see wrong could be the colors on your computer. The contrast, brightness, even the gama...

With today's editing software a picture should never suck. To be a really good photographer... Do it on film. Make it look good the first time. I did film for 5 years before I even touched a digi cam...

Well Spanky from me to you I took it the wrong way and for that I am sorry i apolagize . The pix did look like crap on my space and I just went back and looked at the first edit and they still need some work. I am very picky when it comes to my work and i am still learning the right settings to shoot this type of sport. Im used to shooting model's that dont move .

Biggest issue you're gonna run into is ISO... I'm sure you know all about apature and shutter speed... Thise are gonna be the biggest things. Reason being, this is an outdoor thing. The faster your shutter the more sharp the image will be. The longer it is the more blurry it'll be... Pretty basic ****... It gets more difficult when you throw in apature... A super fast shutter means **** when your apature is wide open. You're going to over expose EVERY time.

Bring down the apature, keep the shutter speed, now you dont have the focal point you want.

Filters. Something most people are missing here is filters. A good filter will help a ton of ****. It'll also protect the front of your lens... What would you rather mess up? $20 filter or a $400 lens? I thought so.

A high speed film is going to be uber uber grainy.. That's the way highspeed film works. A digi, eh, I donno. I think most digi cams these days overcome the grain. I donno, never really dicked with it much.

On Thom's 20D I always just used the sports setting. Seems to be pretty good all around. Now, when you want to mess with the ISO, apature, and other such things it's gonna be more complicated.

Focus issues are almost always the lens or the camera's focus settings. If your lens doesn't auto focus fast enough you end up with a blurry picture... Props to Canon for making the UltraSonic lenses.. If your camera is like a Canon, which I think Nikons are in this area, it has some retarded(at times) 45 point focus system. That's AWESOME, if it gets it right.

I think what most people are ****ing up is two things... You're trying to make your **** too artistic... Not gonna work if you try to "take" the picture that way.. You gotta MAKE the picture that way.. Also, you're trying to do all this fancy ****. You might make one of ten pictures look good. But 10% is pretty ****ty.

My suggestion to everyone is to do what I had to do with film.. Before I tried to make my stuff look good.. I got good at general picture taking. When I tried to "take" artistic pictures I had about a 5% success rate. When I quit that and just concentrated on having a 100% success rate on "normal" pictures it helped a lot.

What I mean by success is.. A PERFECT picture.. Perfect exposed, perfect focus, perfect colors... You gotta be able to take a "normal" picture like that before you can take a fancy shot like that.

After I was able to take perfect basic normal pictures I went up to a 75-85% success rate on the more artistic and fancy ****. A lot of that had to do with my developing though. I was going that all on my own too.

Popa, You seem to have the "Perfect Picture" down in terms of models.. Get that down in paintball or any outdoor action activity and you'll be golden. Light in outdoor photography is your enemy. Remember that. It hurts more than it helps.

I think it might be your contrast that's off.
For some reason, to me the darks seem too dark and the lights seem too light.
