once you've decided what you want to do, start looking through there for one that matches your purpose and price range.

true. 200 bucks will barely cover a basic nitro vehicle. then you need glow starter, fuel, batteries for the radio, etc. or if its got an electric start then replace glow starter with battery and charger.

save more money. You get what you pay for in nitro. Buy a cheap car and the motor will be a pain in the butt ESPECIALLY for a n00blet

If you go new you wont find something for 200. If you go used getting a starting setup for 200 is possible. I picked up a nice HPI RS4 3 Type SS that had everything to run but batteries and nitro fuel and it came with enough spare parts to rebuild the whole car.
Id search E-bay or RCUniverse. You want to look such things as an HPI Firestorm 10T or a HPI MT 18 SS, HPI Savage Traxxas Rustler or Revo, Associated RC 10 GT. Those are stadium style trucks and can usually be had for around 200 for a full setup. For buggies Ofna, Team Losi, Koyosho, and Mugen make good products. I just snagged a Ofna Ultra LX Comp thats RTR for 180 so it can be done.
The companies I listed also have a large hobby shop support. If you buy some off brand cheep pos its likely your local hobby shop won't have spare parts for it. They also have a really good record fro being reliable and durable.
What you really should do is search Ebay and RCUniverse and other RC forums for something that doesn't look like some piece of crap and look it up. Ive learned a hell of alot more from researching what looked to be a decent setup than ever asking a forum. Your going to get too many conflicting reviews and people hatting on this brand and that.

if you starting out with your first rc car/truck i would not get nitro imo,
My first rc truck was a 2.5 t-maxx and i broke it,did not know how to tune it,ect, and got out of it for awhile, about a month ago i bought a traxxis slash and have not had 1 thing go wrong with it.

don't buy a nitro rc car, you must practice first, so buy the electric rc only
