The forgotten demographic

You ever get the feeling that the paintball community has forgotten about the serious recballers? Not the "new players", who need to be protected so they're not scared away. And not the "serious competitive players", who need to be segregated away to protect everyone else. But what about those who are neither? The "all of the above" player. The "couple hours of woods, then a few on the airball course, then finish up with a pump" players. The players who enjoy a nice slow pace, but can also rip it up when the situation calls for it. They enjoy a fast pace as well, but know when to turn it down. The players who enjoy a game on the inflatables, but don't NEED them. The players who play hard, but fair. Intense, but fun. They'll rip a lane off the break, but one ball when they have have a clear shot. They play woods, but they're not exactly 'woodsballers'. The play speedball, but they're not exclusively 'speedballers'. Heck, they sometimes play tournaments, but they're definitely not 'tournament players'. They're paintballers through and through. Any field, any tech level, any time. They make up a large percentage of the regular crowd, but no one notices since they tend to blend in with whatever crowd happens to be there. The speedballers assume they're just more speedballers. The woodsballers assume they're just more woodsballers. They belong, yet don't belong, at the same time.

Anyone else else feel like they're in the "forgotten middle"?

... me too
would you mind specifying why that demographic is "forgotten?"

DUDE! I've been waiting to see if anyone else is like me! I play speedball and woodsball but I'm not really woodsballer or speedballer. I just want to play and mess around while still being a serious player, while still being on a pretty low budget, and that group is often forgotten or misrepresented as either noobs or just serious players

sounds kinda like me, if i had my choice. i play more speedball, which i enjoy, but given the opportunity, i'd love to go dick around in the woods with a bunch of buddies again. it doesn't seem as much like we're being forgotten as forced to pick one or the other.

i think this demographic would be best called "those guys who actually love the game".

Fubarius, you just wrote my paintball biography.

About the time I play woodsball a few days in a row, I can't wait to get on the speedball field. After a few days of speedball, I'm ready to hit the woods again. I like to throw in a scenario every summer as well.

I get really frustrated when people talk about speedball vs. woodsball. It doesn't have to be that way, and I don't understand it. I love to play all aspects of paintball.

I suspect that most of us (but not all) in this "demographic" as you call it have been playing paintball for over a decade.

the way i see it is that the speedballers think there top of the line paintballers and the woodsball crowd are not good enough. i also hate how people segregate us. when it comes down to it we all play the same game and we both shoot paint and have fun

I agree completely. We are like step children, we sit quietly in the corner while everyone else begs for attention. I dont have problems with speedballers or woodsballers in general but there is always the few who has only played one side of the sports and has never tried or only tired once or twice to play the other way their opinions come off as arrogant, ignorant and miss informed. Once everyone realizes that one is not better than the other and to stop arguing about it this sport might finally take off like it always should have and grow to new heights.

I am about to head out to go play some speed and woods today actually. It should be a fun day.

i am for sure one of these type player i love the game and don't really list my self as tourney or woods. still i don't get the "forgotten" part...if we blend both ways doesn't that mean we have double the size pool for products?

hey just a thought!

for the ballers who live for the moment in time when they can live as loud as they want with their friends in the backyard or on the air field!!
