"Bulletproof" Chest Protector
These suckers any good? Reson I'm asking is I'm a referee, and I am tired of getting lit up when I'm not even playing. So I'm thinking one of these would be a good investment.
It looks well padded, and it's cheaper than the others put out by Empire and Dye. But is it a good call?
Also, how's the sizing? I usually wear a medium t-shirt. Do these run large or small?
Thanks everyone!

I don't really care about bounces, I care more about the pain level. I don't care how manly you are, but running through people's lanes all day (even at 10.5bps) starts to hurt after a while. And if you get a two day tourney to ref, it stings that much more.

Yea, they're good. Back, SIDE, and Front protection, plus upper arm protection. Worn like a shirt and the material helps wick away sweat.

Thank you Tomcat! That is exactly what I wanted to hear!
Should I buy a size bigger or anything like that?

Seems like there are other, cheaper options to me.

Doesn't seem expensive to me. It's only about $50. That ain't bad (especially when concerning paintball).

Compared to the Empire Ground pounder vest I've got I'd say that the BT vest is the better of the two. The material is slightly thicker and appears to be better ventilated than any of the chest protectors on the market.
If I didn't already have a vest I'd buy the BT one.

I'm really liking these answers.
So then, how about the sizing?

I'd say sizing runs true. I take it, from the tone of your posts, that you don't have a local shop that you could try one on?

I support my local pro shop as much as possible, but they don't carry any chest protectors whatsoever, so this will be an online purchase.
Thank you all for the help.

I'm a slim guy. 150 at 5'8" and the Youth XL is a snug fit (I like it that way)
Works well. I got shot about 7 feet away in the chest last night and the bruise is not so bad compared to having none at all. Farther shots stung a bit but did not leave marks.

I suppose I've never had a problem with the hits that I get in the areas those protectors cover... but I don't see the appeal for a regular player.

If you're looking at taking the pain down a notch, these actually provide coverage of a lot of areas that hurt like hell. But I actually took the time and lined my old ref jersey with some lightweight cloroplast strips that cut out off of some realty/house for sale signs. I shoe gooped panels on the outside of the jersey and spray painted the stripes on the cloroplast with krylon fusion. It actually didn't look half bad and it reduced the amount of ouch when I got lit up. But for something ready made, this will work well and they are sized just like your t-shirt.

Buy a Medium or small. They are very stretchy and work very well.
