PBA - PSP Avg weekly attendance poll

Alright y'all. I'm trying to help justify Les spending ~$10k on 2014 PSP bunkers and netting for a legit field here in Tulsa.

The question that comes up is the average number of players he can expect to see on a weekly basis. I know we'll (he) most likely never get back this investment, but I'm pushing it so we can help raise the next generation of pro players here in OK.

So, I know there's a lot of you that are committed to teams in the OKC area, but are there Tulsa guys/teams making the trip to OKC, Joplin area or Coweta that would be be interested in a closer option? Are there players/teams that would drill/practice/play part of the month at PBA? Are there teams in OKC that would make the trip up for practices if we can draw in some Joplin or NWA teams?

If we're 'field paint only', would that keep some of you from traveling here? We currently charge ~$45/cs for hyperball paint + $10 entry/field fees. Would some of y'all need/want a BYOP entry similar to the old PCOC deal of $25 if Les would agree to it?

So basically I'm looking for a reply with a:

'Yes, expect me every week end'
'Yes, my team of (??) would be there every weekend'
'Yes, expect me (?) weekends a month'
'Yes, my team of (??) would be there (?) weekends a month'
'No thanks, we're happy practicing at (????) each weekend'

Thanks for looking.
-Dennis

I would have no issue coming up there to practice from time to time. Its always fun to go out to a new field and play against people you dont play agsinst every week

Dennis,

Great idea trying to generate "real" data to make sense of creating a tournament arena! The unquantifiable truth is there is a great opportunity to generate new teams and players by making your arena area inclusive to everyone and making sure everyone gets play time. Having the field and believing "if you build it they will come" isn't the mentality to have from my perspective. Believing you can build a local market training ground for new teams and players is! You can capture a piece of the market that you can create by developing an untapped market in your area. Good luck my friend, let me know if there is anything we can do to help.

I'd definitely head out there on off weekends to run drills/goof off. This place is where I first started playing paintball!

I would make the ~90 mile drive more often, once or twice a month, maybe more depending on the crowd's showing up.

As Ryan said, anything that we can do to help just ask

At that kinda deal I would be more willing to come out and playing at adventure. As long as the paint isn't crap I feel like 45 for a case is reasonable.

i'm new to tulsa, will be coming out every weekend available, and yes, byop is definitely a great option. In virgina, the byop places always had the bigger crowds.

Fields can't make money without paint sales.

If we want a better field(actual air up bunkers) then PBA needs to make money off us, but in order to do that they need to sale us paint and lots of it.

so you're saying that byop fields don't make money? Because I used to go to a lot of fields 10 years ago, they are still in business, i just recently checked.

example purposes only. BYOP price $25 vs Normal price $15 + Paint

For talking purposes paint runs $35 and you charge $60 a case , $20 a bag , and $5 per 100 your net profit is about $20 per case , $10 per bag , and $2.83 per 100 (this assumes 8.3%sales tax is taken out)

A player buys five 100 round fills Field nets an extra $4.15 or 15%
A player buys one 500 round bag and both BYOB and regular are even.
A player buys two bags the field has now increased its profit by $10 or 40%
A player buys 1 case the field has now increased its profit by $10 or 40%

Its not as drastic and life threatening since the BYOB price is pure profit minus some sales tax but if the renter is paying per 100 or shooting 1/2 case or a case it does effect bottom line. Of course if the paint is purchased for less $$ this makes the situation even more evident.

I personally feel that the main concern is the paint itself, people will buy the cheapest paint and bring it. I don't want my rentals possibly getting hit with Wal-Mart paint. Nice thing about tourney paint is it breaks and keep the pain levels low.

So two points here pain = less players = less money ,, BYOP = less money and as Gamer said "If we want a better field(actual air up bunkers) then PBA needs to make money off us"

"Wal-Mart" paint is probably a prime example why BYOP is bad. Ever been hit with a monster ball? If I was young and new to playing I probably wouldn't want to play again.

Insurance I would imagine has a play in it as well.

Insurance does play a big roll we are only allowed to sell/shoot certain paintballs at PBA. Luckily les has been kind enough to also order another paint other than the field paint just for us "tourney" guys to shoot at a cheaper price.

This is why I'm gonna push for no BYOP and just sell good paint at a good price.

This is not a paintball economics debate thread, but...

Financially $25byop entry + $30/cs for 6mos old? paint from Academy is the same as $10 regular entry + $45/cs fresh Empire paint delivered weekly. Plus, why would you not want to fully support a local field that directly benefits you instead of a large corporation that hasn't bought bunkers, netting, poles, grass seed, fertilizer, gas, fill stations...

The spectrum shoots good (at least all I've shot from PBA ) and 45 is a good price I think. Some fields charge more for the same paint. Can't Waite for the air ball field!!! Really the only people that benifit from byop are people that have paint sponcership... And that's not many people.
