OK... here we go again.
... so instead of giving a history lesson I will keep it dry and simple. Security Forces are NOT Military Police. MPs are a traditional military police and JUST police. They are in charge of police functions on base and pretty much do that. Patrol, walkings, and traffic enforcement with all the routine patrols and responses you will see from a usual civilian police force but with auxillary training for base defense requirements.
NOW, SF troops are trained a lot differently and a lot more in depth. We are applicable in both security and Law Enforcement (or LE). Army does not have as high priority assest in which they have to govern. The AF has more important assets which need added protection (such as nukes).
Before I go any further; I want everyone to know there is a LOT i cant share. There is more than just nukes that entail a type of security post but... OPSEC prevents me from sharing sorry
With that said, the need arised for a more highly trained "MP" that the AF was used to having before the split and shortly after the split from the army. I know a few masters in the career field that remembered their tech school was trained by the army. with more than just "nukes" to guard, we are trained to respond to different assets along with the capacity to also be utilized as infantry units and fireteams.
There are so many differences between the two. When Army MPs deploy they do on base LE... thats it. We do so much more. We do Flightline Security, LE, Off base patrols, convoy security, DV and VIP security and escort, along with support missions with Special Forces, Green Berets, and ILO missions like Detainee Ops, Iraqi Security Forces training, and K9 detections.
I cannot elaborate the extreme differences between us (SF), Army MPs, Marine MPs, and Navy Master at Arms. Security Forces, I think, is more highly trained, applicable, and more versitile out of all the branches and I would put money that if you took the best out of each branch and put them in a competition that SF would excel over all the branches just because our training is more indepth compared to the others.
ok... sorry for the rant. im very tired but felt like i should type something
