just think that the people who make the slots usually stay in and fly a bunch cause its something they have always wanted. i say out of all the people that want to be "fighter" pilots 10% get fighter slots and then about 20 more percent out of the applications get picked for like KC-135s and other cargo planes.
also... my recruiter was full of **** when he told me you have to have a background in aerospace engineering to fly. i met a major the other day that had a finance degree flying F-15E... really... i was pretty much dumbfounded
in conclusion... pilot slots are few and thin. fighter pilot slots are even slimmer. good luck
