You gotta be kidding me.. You're talking to me like I've used linux before.

I don't know of one term you used except for "ping the router" (which i don't know how to do) and DHCP (and i don't know what getting a DHCP lease is..)

If you click the two monitors icon next to your clock, do you see a list of APs? If you right click said icon, is "Enable Wireless" checked?

Only thing for a check box I see when I right click is "Enable Networking" (not "wireless")

And if I left/normal click on it the only AP I see are "wired network" / "auto eth0"

Do you have wireless enabled via the little switch or hotkey on your laptop?

Wow brb ima go press the button see what happens..

(the color blue means it's on when im in vista.. but for windows 7 it satys red (off) even though it IS on and connected (glitch w/ windows 7).. so I didn't even think about pressing it in ubuntu to see if that works

edit: nope didn't work.. button stays red even when I push it (but it's red right now and working in windows 7.. techincally it should be blue for 'on')

Or you could go compile a newer version of madwifi/ath5k/ath9k yourself...

Why? I already got it installed and running with little problems (gparted issues)

Internet WORKS.. all I need is wireless. Quit on something because I can't get internet another way? .. even though I can still get it the non-preferred way?

/'tarded.

If you're dedicated to learning it, then do some Googling on the issue or run over to Ubuntu Forums and see if someone else has had this problem. I guarantee you'll find the answer, and if you figure it out yourself then you will have learned something.

Stick with Ubuntu. Why would he give up so early in the game?

Well, for the past day I've been away from my PC and thus couldn't install Ubuntu, but I'm about to go burn a disk and install Ubuntu.

I need some help. I have Ubuntu partitioned on my Laptop for school purposes. But just this morning I tried to boot into the partition, and it told me there was some kernel missing, or I didn't reboot right the last time. So I held down the power button, booted into XP and restarted, and I still can't get in. Any suggestions?

Could be that the partition that your kernel is stored in (typically in the /boot directory) is failing to mount correctly, or the kernel may simply be corrupted.

I could tell you how to fix it (if you just need to replace your kernel) or diagnose it (if it's disk corruption) but I don't think I'm aware of a Ubuntooey way of doing it.

Has the disk configuration of your machine changed in any way?

I finally got to boot into it. I just had to type in chkdsk. But the error was weird, something to the effect of "the Kernel was mounted 30 times without checking" not sure of the exact wording.

Hard disks are supposed to be checked automatically every 33 mounts or 180 days, whichever comes first.

I'm not exactly thinking that was your problem though.
