Ubuntu is pretty bloated, but it's bloated for good reason. If you're looking for an easy to install Windows replacement, Ubuntu is probably your best bet. Just make sure you disable desktop effects and it should run a lot better than W7.

Practically full support for OpenBSD 4.6 on the Eee 701.

Easy install after setting up a PXE boot server, too. No need to mess with external CDROM.

well you can actually download the beta now and it will be the same thing when you do a system update.

Just as a note, if anyone is looking for a mirror in the northeast, you could choose http://lug.bu.edu/mirror/ubuntu-iso for your Karmic needs. We're on the Abilene network and the area's metro ring.

They mention that the mirrors should have the final release around 16:00 UTC (11AM EST).

I tried 9.10 and still couldn't get it to dualboot correctly.

Because I know you all care.

Linux has got to be the worst operating system ever.

Windows is so much better, especially vista, in every single aspect

I is using crunchbang 9.04

Whenever I try to connect with network manager to my WPA2 wifi, it never connects, but comes back with some random password that looks like hex, instead of the one I entered

Does the same with WEP

I can only connect with my wifi unsecured, and WICD wont connect at all

Apparently this is an issue with 9.04 buntu but there isn't a fix

Have you tried wpa_supplicant? I've been able to connect without problem to unsecured, WEP, WPA2 personal, and 802.1x access points with it.

I'll give it a try when I get home, is it possible to get wpa_supplicant with no internets? Like maybe get a live cd and save the package to a thumbdrive or something?

You're seriously not helping Linux's case here. I would prefer it if people don't assume that I am an ******* just because I identify myself as a Linux user.

I was trolling earlier, ubuntu 9.10 is working just fine, apparently 9.04 hates wireless.

Now to figure out how to get conky working like I used to have it

Just copy the dotfile you used from the old one into your home directory.
