polish up your cuts, it would have been better if you had gotten a more common spyder.

While I like that you de-uglified the trigger guard, I can't say that I like how you ruined Kingman's modest attempt at a halfback, and you'll definitely have some bolt alignment and contamination problems as extreme as you went with it, but to each his own I guess. Anyway, its still good to see someone taking an older Spyder and giving it some love.

As far as functionality upgrades, its already got a decent reg, much like my Rodeo, so no reason to spend a bunch of money on a new reg, v/a, gauge, lpc, hose, asa, and drop-forward, that really adds up big time. I'd say focus on the DIY functionality mods such as polishing the internals, modding the bolt, and drilling out internal passageways. Get a feedneck and grips if you want, and a new barrel is always nice. Buy a high-flowing valve or mod the stock one, grab a spring kit, and spend some time tuning it and you should have a nice LP e-spyder for cheap.

Spyder Rodeo
Mods:old ESP frame (shimmed/modded trigger, polished sear and solenoid internals, lightened sear spring, ESP 3.0 CAMD board, Dye Sticky 3 grips), stock bolt (removed venturi, SPPS "swoosh" mod, "massaged" valve hole, polished), polished striker and valve pin, drilled VA and CA, VS1 bottomline, VS1 valve spring and homemade shim kit, clamping feedneck, J&J ceramic 14" barrel, 9oz and 12oz CO2, VL200...
Need:a real spring kit, NDZ valve, and a decent hopper, anti-siphoned 20oz CO2 or maybe HPA...?

PM ME IF YOU HAVE: stock pilot acs trigger, Rodeo frame complete, CHEAP but working hopper or 20oz co2, flat black pilot or vs lpc

not ruined, it's a work in progress. check it out later. but yes, definitely the best looking classic spyder. except the grips... what were they thinking!?

it will get all polished and annoed when the body is finished. it wont have hardly any angles when it's done. i need a new dremel first to finish the body - not excited about the price tags

there's about an eighth of an inch clearance for the last bolt o-ring and technically, the back end of the bolt should never touch the body. spyders often do and grind against each other, but in an ideal setup, there should only be o-ring/body contact anyway. I played a tourney with it this weekend and it shot just as it did before. i cant say i wasn't concerned when i was hacking up a perfectly good marker, but it turned out ok

thanks for the suggestions. i'm definitely thinking about going low pressure. i put a smartparts linear barrel on it and it definitely quieted it up and made it a little more accurate.

Lightbulb New Updates - Bolt, Grip and Barrel

made some new changes. the most dramatic definitely chopping the bolt. there is still plenty to grab to cock back and it's made it significantly lighter

the mod made the bolt and hammer assembly lighter so the spring now needs to be replaced with a stiffer one. i didn't realize this till i was on the field and only shooting about 220 fps. shimming the back of the spring worked for the day but a new spring is in order. this too will get done finer and finished later with the rest of the body

i'm making clear plexiglass grips but haven't decided yet how to handle the overly large battery and solenoid. i most likely will make another grip of the same material that will be hollowed to fit them.

new smartparts linear barrel

keep the comments and suggestions coming!

thanks!

thanks!
dual layer panels with the inner hollowed out. that's how everyone else did it.

try weak valve spring, see if that helps.

WTF <GOD> those were my next words.

I could appreciate the halfback if more fenixes were made, but since this is not the case I really wish you had picked a more common body.

But since you have started, I recommend using a file to clean up the half-back then sandpaper to hand polish, you don't really need a dremmel except for rough cuts.

maybe i wasn't clear. there is a lot more body work to come. that's the final shape of the back portion of the upper cylinder. i'm not going to spend time finishing (hand filing and sanding) any surface until it's about to go to anno. the rest of the body hasn't been touched yet and will get a total reshaping. what i plan to do to the rest of the body requires a dremel. or a weeks worth of hand sanding. the average paintballer shouldn't recognize it as a spyder when i'm done

They're saying "whatever work you're doing you could've used a more common body because the fenix actually looked good stock."

i agree the fenix did look really good with the exception of the trigger guard.

why did i choose the fenix?

i got an amazing deal on it and i saw a lot of potential for modifications. namely it already has a reg, gauge, e trigger, and lots of material on the body to shape. the walls are thick in places and i plan to take advantage of that.

i didnt mean to commit spyder blasphemy...

to all those offended, i hope to re earn your approval.

stay tuned

looking good.

still think you should mod a gun that needs modding. fenixes are already awesome and better left un-modded.
