Ultimate Woodsball League: UWL

The SPPL has some up and coming competition. There is a new league in town that is being setup by Tom Cole of BC Army. I looked over the UWL setup/guildelines/divisions/rosters and all in all it looks pretty impressive. I'm definitely a big fan of the Skills Division. It is a division where mechs and pumpers will shine. It might be worth checking out. One thing is for certain, going up against the SPPL could be a risky business endeavor, but it appears as if these boys are up for the challenge and offering a pretty darn good product. Something that immediately caught my eye...it's "Bring Your Own Paint". That will be a big selling point for quite a few cats.

I think there is going to be a blind draw 10 man event in the woods at Mad Cow in April or May.

The DDay field my friend is only a 6 hour drive. Kill two birds with one stone. Hit up the UWL tournie, stay for the world's largest paintball game, and come home a happy man.

I have been highly interested in this too; The BYOP is the big draw, If anyone wants to play the skills division I am interested in building up a team. Maybe I'll resurrect some old timers and get them on the field. I'll probably let my little brother chris(richterpower/yodamann) play as the "sniper" and let him use his phantom or pump mag.

The closest venues are Badlands and DDay; unfortunately they are in two separate divisions. They are also held very close together too; 1 in may and 1 in early june.

I was planning on playing Legends which has a date during the end of May and not going to DDay.

I heard Dday is usually very hot, too many people to where people just walk to the road and go back to playing and also that it is a tank fest. How hard is it to find a hotel room close to the dday field?

So it is a tough choice; organize a competitive team to play a new league that looks like allot fun to play and go to Dday or just have fun; play with a few family and friends and play local; plus some big games and scenarios like Legends and Spring Pump Event.

DDay can be pretty hot in the Okie sun come June. There are certainly a good number of tanks, but it is not a "tank fest" with the field consisting of close to 800 acres of wooded terrain. They are certainly not overpowering and add a very exciting element to the game.

Hotel rooms are pretty easy to snag if you set them up a few months in advance. I believe you're looking at a 20 minute drive for the closest (decent) one. We bring 20 guys down with Muddy and always camp, it's just a fun atmosphere to be a part of.

There are certainly a lot of people, 4000 players roughly, but with that much ground to cover, that many units spread out all over the field, the battles are insane and the options limitless. If you love woodsball, you have to attend DDay at least once. With the UWL being there this year, it might not be a bad time to do it.

Dday is worth it. There are a few tanks but its not as bad as people think. I was only attacked by a tank once in 08 and only a couple times in 07. I don't know about people just walking to the road and then getting back in, I have never seen that at dday. But with that many people I am sure there will be a few cheaters, just like with any game you will go to.
There are several towns in the area of dday with hotels, Neosho and Joplin Missouri would have the best ones.

The uwl just sounds like alot of fun. The Texas event is only 700ish miles away in the Dallas area and its in september so going to dday and going to dallas doesn't seem that out of the question to me. Just a thaught.

Yeah, it does sound like a lot of fun, but that is a lot of driving for a young team like us. Also there is the cost factor involved in traveling and that sounds like a lot of money. I also really enjoyed the Vicious woodsball series and I was really glad to have something like that, especially so close to home. It would be neat to have something like that again this year.

If we were to do another 5man wood event we would cap it at like 7 or 8 teams so each team would only play 6 or 7 games then the top 2 teams play a finals. We would also do a 10 BPS cap and chrono speed of 285 or so.
