Thats a tough call, because looking at my Vlo board, it seems that the SMD comes before the IC chip in the circuit.

It looks like that part comes before the chip in the circuit, which would mean that the chip had nothing to do with it.

I may be wrong as I did it by hand, but your best bet is to call up Virtue and then Viewloader.

that's cold blooded....

dumb question, but did you take out the batteries before you connected the chip? if not, then YOU fried your board. The cip will arc as it is installed(if the batteries are installed) because it is not grounded or charged. sorry man.

I don't see how you did not have the batterys connected and it managed to hold an electrical charge. I am going to have to call shens.

I just installed the chip. I haven't had any problems yet. What was your procedure?
1) Remove Batteries
2) Remove Old Chip
3) Replace with Virtue Chip in the correct direction
4) Connect the motor to the chip
5) Ensure switch is in the off position
6) Replace batteries
7) Switch on the Test
When did the 'Pop' happen? Following the steps above:
A) After you put in the chip (Step 3)
B) After you connected the motor (Step 4)
C) After you connected the batteries (Step 6)
D) After you switched it on (Step 7)

I'm not saying you are. This was for my benefit, so I can attempt to diagnose what happened. It was in no way any attempt to offend you. I'll have to go home and look at my board. I'm not sure what that piece is next to what I think is a power transistor. Looks like you have the original chip in there now (by the looks of the picture) But at this point, I would try to take Virtue up on their Lifetime warranty/Bulletproof guarantee. Did you buy the chip new or from someone?
