The treadmill idea......

Daily workouts are a great way to build muscle. Just by doing things like sprints and free weights makes a big difference with snap shooting, snake crawling/diving and just endurance in all.

I use a workout very similiar to what I used when I was playing competitive hockey.

Circuit training - I use a bowflex, but more importantly instead of just doing heavy weights, lighter weights with lots of reps for your upper body, and core(abs), and when I'm doing my lower I explode up to the top of the rep. I do this because paintball is all about explosive power, with endurance. There are two types of endurance, long distance(reserving power), and Short distance(hard accelerations, over a short period of time).

Wind Sprints - you can do this anywhere, it really builds the type of cardio you need for paintball, and increases your footspeed. So go to a track/open field, whatever someplace there is room. Sprint full out for 50 metres(yards), and than walk for 50 meters. And repeat as long as you can. Once you get better stamina for this, you should really jog in between. Builds stamina, increases the explosive power you need for out of the gate, and increases your overall speed.

Diet - This is definately the hardest thing to do. No more fast food!! This doesn't just mean places like Mcd's, wendys etc, it also means places like Denny's. These places all have pre-made frozen portions. They get thrown in a microwave robbing them of important nutrients you need to become strong. If you have to eat there(on the road, etc) always get the real egg meals. Not the slams with scrambled eggs etc. Stay away from chips, and junk like that, and eat tonnes of veggies, and fruit. Drink juice over pop, and put the energy drinks away as they are horrible for you.

Training takes committment from you and your team. It is not easy at first, but neither was snap shooting at first, or shooting off handed. How did you get good at that, practice, get shot in the face a few times.

just being in general good health and decent shape is pretty ok for paintball unless your really trying to move up the divisions. if you are just playing rec ball and a tourney here and there, a rigorous workout routine isnt rly needed, since most of the time you'd be playing other teenagers who also arent working out.

im 5'10" and 210 lbs. a little chubby, i smoke and enjoy fast food. im not that fast at all and im a big target. but im just as good as anyone else on the field thats smaller or faster. just gotta use my head, like not running to snake off a break when you are playing any other team thats halfway decent. lol.

Many great tips here.

What is important though is to look at your training regemine in a holistic manner. Everything you do in one arena affects things in others. Endurance, Strength, Power, and Nutrtion are all interrelated so any deficits in any of these areas manifest themselves as weaknesses in others.

Try to develop a program where these facets compliment each other.

Finally, and importantly, take measurements. Track your gains so you know if your program is actually working. Measure various things, ROF, sprint speed, rep counts, whatever, to establish a baseline and monitor your progress from.

the treadmill idea actually helps because it helps for the basics of running and gunning and helps to stabilize your aim when running

Ive not tried this out yet but i do believe it will work a great deal, no need to buy weights and all that bull unless your a body builder/paintballer.
hes right about the treadmill i do it when im really bored but snap shooting and running are the biggest parts of paintball

Um just play another sport other than paintball. For those of us who may be in highschool or middle school try out for football, track, soccer, wrestling or something. Doing one of those everyday after school plus the workouts that come along with them will do more than enough to get you into shape. I do wrestling and track which both help me with endurance and speed. But for those who are a bit older there are still some adult leagues you can join or invest in a work out program or gym membership. Running two times a week isnt going to improve your cardio or strength that much, it just doesnt work that way. That doesnt mean do it every day b/c you need to give your body time to rebuild or your just gonna do more harm than good.

What I've been doing to get in shape for more than just paintball is:
Sprints
100 Pushups in the morning, 100 at night
200 Sit ups in the morning and at night.
running with ankle weights and my mask on

I might need to do some squats as well, my legs lock up after long snap battles.

i used to be pretty skinny.. 6,1 145 and it used to be very hard to stay posted up all day in paintball (im a cross country runner) but i have been working out a ton and now im 6,1 160-165 and it is much easier and i am also faster off the break. focus on lifting with arms chest and shoulders and do alot of running to stay lean.
