New Programmed Firing Mode from Smart Parts - Billy Ball

Hopefully i can post this here... move if needed. TY

Excerpt taken from :

Sean Scott
Director of Promotions & Public Relations
Smart Parts, Inc

Quote:
Smart Parts introduces a new firing mode for the rental version of the Vibe electropneumatic paintball marker aimed at reducing rate of fire.

The Billy-Ball firing mode allows the Vibe to fire at a rate of 0.5 bps, or one ball every two seconds, simulating the rate of fire typical in pump-action paintball games. The new mode was first tested at the All-American Paintball Park and met with an immediately positive response from the Smart Parts staff members playing, as well as visiting field owners who had an opportunity to try it out after technical training classes.

Smart Parts plans to make Billy-Ball available in future updates to most of its product line.

In theory it should keep paint consumption down and allow for teams to practice communication and snap shooting.

i actually kinda like the idea of being able to turn your electro into a simulated pump and would work REALLY well for snap drills.

smart parts did something right

for teams its really pointless because its a very unrealistic scenario. communicating with only .5bps going on is much differnt thatn 15bps.

for fun im sure it would be a good time.

I guess being limited by the guns electronics no matter what doesnt appeal to me. .5 seems slow to me even for a pump. Playing with pumps is fun and i enjoy it but this doesnt seem like it would appeal to many poeple at all. Not to mention with most newer guns you can limit the rof w/o a special mode and it doesnt allow for real practice. Aside form pum players who will already have a pump any tourny player wont gain much if anythign practicing under conditions that dont fit the formats they play.

in the longer version of the press release they claim it is geared toward little kids (10-13ish) birthday parties, etc. makes more sense in that context.

That makes more sense i guess. Of course for kids birthday parties and stuff id assume most kids would be using rentals anyway which would be mechanical OR easily adjustable to be slow. Like i said, .5 bps seems low under any circumstance. Even if i was a first time player being younger or with a party it would piss me off not having the guin fire everytime i pulled the trigger.

There is what i was looking for TY

So eventually it will be a "standard" mode. Hopefully it can be changed to 2 bps, that would be better in my opinion.

Dont knock it till you try it. I was at Smart Parts a few weeks ago and had the chance to play "Billy-Ball" with Bill and Adam Gardner as well as their kids and a bunch of other Sp staff. Let me tell you it was a blast and very addictive. Your shooting discipline is tested to the limit. It also surprisingly makes the game speed fast as hell. It's also a good concept for rentals, which is what its marketed to, because noobs and rec players dont get intimidated by 25bps.It also lets field owners put together a nice rental party package that wont break the parents bank with buying tons of paint.

What i said still applies. A player at any level not being able to fire a shot everytime i pull the trigger (unless its once every 2 seconds) would probably drive them crazy. I can see some fields liking it if they prefer to limit paint usage. Again, a lot of people including field owners wouldnt even consider it since a lot of them depend on paint sales. I guess if everyone used the same setup it would level the playing field a bit. No doubt games would go faster since you can make insane moves w/o geting shot. That would make it so easy to run down a field and shoot a person or two.

interesting, although i (and probably everyone else i know who owns a pump) can, and often do, shoot at least 3 BPS with a pump. cool concept, although like adrenaline-junkie said, not being able to shoot when you pull the trigger would be frustrating. "hey, he just shot! i'm going to run him down, he can't do anything!"

And that is where the fun comes in

I have played it several time and it is pretty damn fun. I was against it at first wanting my higher rates of fire. But man... it totally changed the game and it was a blast. We have been having good success at our field as well with it getting more newer people to come and play that would not normally come out, which is what this is geared for. And also... you learn how to shoot accurately real quick as well.

This is the greatest thing that has happened to paintball in a while. A LOT more players will be introduced to the sport if fields start using this as rentals for birthday parties or just rentals in general.

A+ smart parts. Never though I would say this lol
