Mine is the same way. It's just the nature of that little beast. I use headphones when I need to get quiet. It drives me crazy that they made the cabinet so light weight. If I crank it up, it vibrates across the hardwood floor.

I've got a Dean bass, and my E string drowns everything else out when I'm playing. I've tried fiddling with my amp's equalizer (Peavey Max 158) and that had some effect but not a lot. I'm pretty sure the pickup is wired properly. Is it just the nature of the beast or is there something wrong?

Any of you guys own an iRig or similar device for your iphones/ipads? I'm thinking of getting one and I wanted to get some opinions of what app to use and whether to fork out the money for the iRig or not. I'm currently thinking of getting the iRig and using garageband as an amp, as I'm finding it offers the most bang for your buck (other apps are like 20 bucks + w.e effects you want to get, whereas garageband already comes FULL of amps/effect pedals to choose from). Thoughts?

DaEagleEye, I'd recommend posting that question over at the harmony central forums. iRigs are used by a few members there and I doubt anyone really uses them extensively here.

Quick questions-

Okay so I play trumpet and I've been playing on a Bach Straddy for about a year. I noticed that the finish on it has deterierated. It's more of a cloudy silver, and there's small scratches all over it. Is there any way to restore the finish? I've taken it in to be acid cleaned and it doesn't really help.

Also, what mouth piece would you suggest for concert band/orchestra play and one for marching band/pep band?

Thanks guys

I bought the BC Rich in the middle today and I was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. I know it plays well as I tried it out in shop, I'm just curious about production numbers and approximate value. I'm also thinking about swapping the stock pickups for something else. I'm not really knowledgeable about pickups so any advice there would be awesome. A buddy suggested EMG's for it but he also said BC's love Seymour Duncans. How do I go about finding the right pickups for it, or is it personal preference?

It's all preference. Personally I don't like active pickups at all.

So... I randomly start and stop playing guitar for whatever period. Just when it suits. I have been at it more this time than ever in the past 5 years. Looking for a better amp. I am not happy with my Peavey Vypyr 15 and I love the sound of the Mesa Mark's. Do I get over it, buy a Mark IV for $1000 local, or just get a Mark V and be done with it. It might be used daily for the next year or month and might sit forever after that. The money invested will be expendable cash. I am leaning for the IV but should I spend more than double on the V?

Are you talking about combos, or heads? I don't know everything about Mesas, but I know they've made changes to both the IV and V over the years.

The Mark IV is a combo, no options there. The Mark V would likely be a head as I can get a head cheaper used and end up with a closed back 2x12 keeping the total under the price of the combo.

Looking for classic rock, modern rock, metal, punk, and all sounds in between.

I have a Mark IV and have played a couple Mark V's.

Both amazing amps. I liked the Mark V more. They are a LOT easier to dial in. The Mark IV is the most tempermental amp I've ever played as far as finding a good tone on it. Once you find it, it's absolutely amazing, but you could be dialing away for an hour before you find a sweet spot on it. And there's plenty of Mesa guys out there that swear the Mark IV is better than the V.

^ That's why I'm afraid to give an opinion on which sounds better without owning either. Both have incredible range, which borders on insanity when you use different effect pedals. I'd probably have to take pictures of the ideal settings on every piece of equipment for quick reference.

Sounding better is subjective. I am looking for value. Is the Mark V with the increased voice worth the price increase and warranty? I could get one for around $1700 actually making the difference around $600.
