Gear/Equipment. Show it off. Ask questions.

Well... I think this forum needs a little gear thread. Nothing like the past has brought us, because it always went downhill. For us people who actually play instruments, I think it would be nice to have a good thread where you can ask questions about certain things gear related and get answers from the people who actually have had in depth experience with the item in question. That was a long sentence... I hope it made sense.

What I'm saying is... Post every little detail about your musical equipment. Recording equipment, pedals, amps, drums, guitars, strings, basses, wiring, etc. and give a little review about it. This way, if anyone has a real question about something, they can ask in here and get answers from people that have first hand experience with the item. Personally, I think it'd make a nice sticky, but that's just me.

Okay, here... I'll start and we'll see if anyone follows suit. Remember, if you have a question at any time, ask here (or PM the person with the item) and an answer should come, right? If this doesn't work, then it doesn't work I guess. At least I tried.

----------------------------------------

Schecter C-1 Classic

My baby. I'm not much of a fan of the lower-end Schecters, but these things are topnotch. They're beautiful to look at, easy and fun to play, and don't put heavy dent in your pocket. A lot of people don't realize the great quality that can come from oriental countries. Great materials (mahogany body/neck with rosewood fretboard, Seymour Duncan pickups) and great construction (neck-thru design, well balanced) at a low price (got mine for $600 from ebay). A number of them (like mine) come with coil tapping as well.

----------------------------------------

DR High-Beam Strings

Great. Awesome. Amazing. Of course, different strings fit different player's styles, but these are it for me. Brilliant, bright highs, overall great tones. Probably won't ever switch to anything else.

----------------------------------------

Gibson J-45 Acoustic

I love this guitar. I have yet to find any acoustic out there that sounds better. Simply amazing in all aspects.

----------------------------------------

Feel free to put up whatever you have. It's kind of a way to show off what you have (you can add your setup pictures) and give some insight into everything. In all-in-one equipment thread. You don't have to do the same thing I did... I was bored. I'll probably even add more later. But it's late and I have an early morning class tomorrow, so I'm hitting the sack.

My rag-tag setup in the corner of my room (complete with barstool!)

Amp: Peavy Valveking 100W 212. Great gain and sound even at low levels (awesome little power-saving mode ), but still enough power to make the rest of the town **** the bed when I crank her up on the hillside beside my house.

Effects: Fulltone Obsessive Compulsive Drive (OCD) Version 4 (Red LED). Awesome little overdrive/distortion. What makes it super special is that it's dynamic, as opposed to most distortions and overdrives that keep the same level as you play. The harder you attack, the more drive you get. And of course, the famous VOX wah.

Guit-box: Grestch Electromatic Corvette. Bright tones, Mega-Tron pickups that roar, a Bigsby vibrato, and one hell of a sexy body shape. I love this guitar to death.

Acoustic: 1976 Ovation Balladeer Custom. Simple but sexy looks, with even sexier tone. Also note, the strings on that guitar are about 10 years old.

They were blowing out Gibson Explorers at Guitar Center about a month ago for $325, so you could probably get a Gibson for around that price on the used market.

Thanks.

I love it. I hardly see people with Gretsch's, and it's actually hard to find other people online that own a Corvette. So like that it's pretty original, as well as sexy.

It has a few dings on the body now though.

Guitar:
PRS Custom 24
- Wide/thin neck for my small/girly hands
- HFS/Vintage pickups. The bridge screams, the neck cries like an emo chick who just broke up with her boyfriend. I love em'.
- The trem is sensitive, but stable. Stays in tune VERY well when strings are done stretching.
- The pickups are splittable for Strat-like tones. A HUGE factor in me buying it.

I have no desire for any other electric. I think the Cu24's best attribute is versatility. It also cleans up better on high gain channels than any other guitar I've touched. You can max your settings on the amp, roll the volume pot back on the guitar and still get nice acoustic sounding, chimey tones.

Amp (on the way, so no pics yet):
Peavey Valveking 112
- Mods will include a Hellatone Vintage 30 from Avatar. Vintage 30's straight from Celestion suck. Yep........I said it. I don't care if your favorite pro uses them or not. Until they are broken in which takes 100 years...they are harsh, and they suck.
- JJ ECC83 preamp tube in the V2 position, and still doing research for the other positions.
- If I'm not satisfied with the reverb, I'll look into a reverb tank. But, I heard the reverb is great on these.

Morley Wah:
Nothing special, just a really solid wah. It uses optics for the sweep, so I don't have to worry about pots wearing out. People go crazy about the Crybaby. I've only played the base model and found it to rob tone. The Morley let the guitar shine through in my opinion.

Digitech Bad Monkey:
- Guys, don't let the digitech name fool you on this one. Try one out and look at reviews. I played one in GC, and understand why they call it a poor man's Tube Screamer. I've heard of successful musicians even replacing their TS's with these. VERY nice pedal for the money.

Tom Petty uses one, so that counters the gayness that is Fall Out Boy.

The FOB one looks ****ing gay too. And no Bigsby = fail.

Did you play trumpet first, or just jump right into that?

Yes, but I played trumpet and I was told they were similar. I thought it was like clarinet-->sax.

I think the fingerings are identical to tell you the truth.
