Outdoor Field Costs - Basic Spreadsheet

Hey all, I've created a sheet to help prospective field owners "forecast" their income from an outdoor field. I've tried to include all the costs, but obviously they will not cover everything for any field... This gives a rough estimate of both incoming money and costs, and could help you decide on a pricing scheme or to see if a change may benefit you.

It does require realistic numbers be found by you - It doesn't know your local demographics and therefor cannot tell you there is no way you are having 3000 people every weekend. It also cannot tell you how much paint people will shoot, again that is up to you to estimate.

The page with the latest versions of the sheets is at http://sites.google.com/site/paintballresources/ - This site will host other spreadsheets and paintball related resources as I make them or others contribute them. Eventually it may migrate to a full-featured host, but for now and until there is content enough to justify it I'm leaving it as-is.

I hope this tool is useful to you, and if you have any input please feel free to share either directly to me via PMs or any other way you want.

Several long-time posters here have already made contributions to this spreadsheet and I thank them for their time and efforts

I think your formula may be incorrect in field c60 and c65. you only account for about half of your fixed costs.

This spreadsheet actually started out of pure frustration with people who would say "If you only charge $5 over cost for paint and give free entry you'll make 10 times as much money!!!!" - I wanted to be able to do a direct comparison between pricing methods with some kind of concrete number. When I looked at how close it was to done I then sought out help from several of the major contributors on this forum to finish it - I never asked permission for posting their names so we'll keep them anonymous unless they want to step forward.

I think it should be relatively easy to convert this spreadsheet to cover a wider variety of fields, or else create dedicated calculators for other kinds of fields. I'll be working on these in the near future, but if someone else wants to take a shot at it they are more than welcome to do so, and I'll host it for them if they want to keep it with this one.

Changing bookings/week doesn't seem to affect net annual.

Thanks for pointing that out, got it fixed and the new version will be uploaded within the next couple minutes. Looks like I changed a reference without looking carefully which field I dragged.

I've removed the "Seasonal Fixed Outgoing" field from Seasonal Income, as it was redundant.... And also caused this error lol.

Good job on the Spreadsheet, Travis.

I would like to see a bit more in the numbers you put on it. Just so people can see how many/what type of equipment you were utilizing in your model. If you could do this with each topic via notes prospective field owners could see where their budget may be adjustable.

For example, if you were paying $600.00 per month for 10 Porta-potties, a new start-up field may be able to save on their initial cost by only starting with 4.

Also, a sample of materials/equipment that you would get a loan for or have to budget for would be good. (compressor, bulk tanks, fill stations, netting, rental equipment, etc.)

I know this is in depth and I will be glad to offer any help I can on this. I really appreciate all the work you have done so far. Keep it up!

I can definitely add some notes about examples - Not something I had thought of up to this point. I'll work on it over the weekend, probably have something up by Monday.

The other part of your request would be somewhat tougher since my example numbers are more or less imagination... I have no idea on the costs of most of the things on that list, as I'm not a field owner or even a prospective owner in the foreseeable future - I just threw in numbers that seemed somewhat reasonable to me, mostly to check the formulas (although thanks to not paying attention during changes I missed some errors lol)

Maybe it's just my computer but the latest versions of ods and xls both downloaded as read-only. It can be fixed by going into the file properties and unchecking the read only box, but I'm not sure why it was done in the first place.

I'll check into that, shouldn't have happened.

EDIT: Checked it, didn't happen for me, but I re-uploaded both to make double-certain. Hope it helps, if anyone else has this problem please let me know.

Cell C59 is:
=G35*(G36*C49+G37*C53)

But I believe you mean it to be:
=G35*(G36*C49+G37*C54)

Got it, yup. Also updated to clarify some points about the "Booked Parties" - they aren't supposed to be affected by how many per week, that comes into the overall "Seasonal Income", the same as each "Open Day" is.
