My guess is it's probably a 350 swap.
I've always liked the 7 and 8's. The 5's are just too short of a wheelbase and both the 5 and 6 had the small doors and short bed sides.

North NJ here, I dont see how peoples vehicles rot. I had a DD XJ that had no, I repeat, NO rust, let me know if you want to see a picture. It was a 95, drove it every winter, not even the paint had any imperfections. Now I have a '10 Cummins and a 89 Bronco, my Bronco, again is a NJ vehicle, no rust. Drive it in the winter, wheel with it, just have to properly seal everything.

A weekly cleaning is what does it. Keep bare metal touched up and keep the body and undercarriage free of salt. Neglect = rot. Care = no rot. Simple as that.

 to you sir
Just because a trail vehicle is a trail vehicle doesn't mean you neglect it.

Thinking about getting a jeep as my first car, what do you think as a first car?

If you use "jeep" and "car" interchangeably, then you aren't allowed to purchase a jeep.
Also, google: jeep wave
Its all in fine print inside the owners manual...which the PO probably dropped in mud somewhere
(unless its a yuppie jeep coughlibertygrandcherokeejkcough)

Well a jeep is an automobile. And, the definition of a car is an automobile. So I would say using them side by side makes perfect logical sense.
I refer to trucks and **** as cars all the time because... they are.

Hey, so I'm looking at selling my 2003 civic si pretty quick because I want something 4wd. I've pretty much decided on a jeep. So far between a tj wranger (probably sport if I can find one) and a 2003ish grand cherokee overland. I don't know how much off roading I would do at least for a bit, but the ability is what I want.
I was looking at this.
I guess I'm just looking for input. How is the HO 4.7 as far as longevity?

Personally I wouldn't touch that jeep. That's just me but I wouldn't ever think about even buying it. I would rather buy a stock one and lift it myself (you don't know how hack job it MIGHT be.) I've always been a ZJ guy (I'm on my third one) Those are a good platform to build off of. If you want it just for trails then you should get a tj. If you want more comfort, style, and all around better jeep (IMO) then I would get a ZJ, WJ and lastly a XJ.

Its a RC lift, hard to hack job a 4" lift when not much needs to be done. Maybe if it was a 4 link that statement would stand.

I like the "Wrangler" body style Jeeps. Nothing like a full framed vehicle. The ZJ and XJ's are unibodied vehicles.

yea I don't know. After reading into that lift a little more, it seems kind of cheesy/cheap.
I think I'd still rather find a tj if I can get my honda to sell.

What would be some specific things to look for with one of those?

I have the RC 3 1/4" kit on my Tj and I like it. Feels clost to stock ride quality, and the progressive springs are real nice.

TJ with the 4.0 I6 and Dana 44 rear axle - great platform to start.
