Alright guys, this is my first time posting here and I'm looking for some help. I'm growing tired of my mall going 98 explorer, I love the truck but it needs work and I wanna get into light offroading.
Basically what I'm asking is what kind of jeep is best for being a DD as well as having room to do some mods to make it off road capeable. Basically my big thing is having it be able to get me to/from work in the winter where the roads are crappy. As well as if I go to my buddies out in the woods be able to take some somewhat easy trails as well as give me room to if i wanted to get a different car for my DD make it a badass offroad vehicle.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

XJ/WJ/TJ/ZJ/KJ/CJ/etc.
ZJ/WJ will have better road manners than most but can still be made into quite the offroad machine.

Anyone have thoughts on retreaded tires? Some people on the jk-forum.com swear they are great. For the price of these tires they are worth a shot to me since they are half the cost or even less.

Size not brand. I guess they're 255/75r17 since you just posted those gaurd dogs?
I don't recommend retreads if you live somewhere hot because the tread can basically melt off. As far as retreads go, I hear the gaurd dogs are pretty good.

Both different sizes, but they should bother fit fine and are cheaper.

Yeah Wisconsin is far from hot. Yeah sorry didn't know you meant size but yeah that is the size. I want to keep all four the same tread pattern. I've been told in the past that you can screw up your differential if your running different tread patterns. Not sure if this is true or not but I've been told this quite a few times.
Worr links don't work but the duratracs you linked, quite a few people in jk's swear they are awesome tires.

Been a while since I posted in here so here's some updates:
Replaced the stock headlight wiring harness with beefcake goodness. Combined with some very nice 70/65w OSRAM bulbs and Hella E code housings, the result was awesome....
Posing with the nephew
*** shot
Haven't wheeled in about a month due to work. Soon....very soon.

Absolutely.
Why wouldn't I? I built it to be bulletproof on the trail so that I can drive it to work on Monday.

Thanks man. It has bumpers....the front is currently in my garage so that I can straighten it. Here it is--it's just an overglorified winch mount, which also conveniently just sits in my garage.
The rear is a weld-on 1/4" crossmember from TNT. No bumper needed or wanted--I like departure angle as some of the ledges I climb are steep as hell.

Imped's rig is sick as hell...one of my faves on JF.
I got some wheeling in today. One trail, our club calls "2 Headed Dragon"...being that theres 2 ways to go (1 is buggy only)
Trail Minimum Recommendations: 35's, Locked F&R
Pretty stoked I did it on 33's Locked Front

I got a 98 cherokee as a winter beater. Its pretty nice, but has some issues. The gauges don't work at all, and it has a starting issue. I let it run the other day, and after I turned it off I tried to restart it. It cranked, but wouldn't run. Any ideas for either or my issues?
The gauges were workin about a month ago, and they just crapped out all at once.

Put in the 2" BB the other day. Looks a lot better then before. Can't wait to get some 31's. Next summer I'll hopefully have enough to go higher.
