Not sure about you but we always pieced together lifts and a track bar isnt needed with 33's on one of those. We have 35's on a YJ with stock axles right now and you can beat it all day and as long as it doesn't hop, your good. as soon as it hops it throws a U-joint. Just my 0.2c

That totally has to do with lift height, not tire size. And YJ's axles are laterally located with leaf springs and don't even need track bars. Apples to oranges dude.

I decided to sell my TJ. Once I get it off, I'll be on the hunt for an LJ Rubicon.

alright guys, looking to get a rear bumper/tire carrier. Has to hold a 35 inch tire, as I'm running 35s right now. My 2 choices are either a smittybilt swing away tire carrier, or an offroad utopia rear stinger custom made to fit a 35. Both are the same price. Opinions?

EDIT: Rig is a 98 tj 4.0 with d44 in the rear, chromo shafts, aussie locker, and d30 upfront with chromo shafts.

My ****tybuilt tire carrier on my TJ is ****. I pulled a couple people out using the reciever hitch as my anchor point and now my bumper is bowed out in the middle.

I did the exact same thing so I removed it, sold that POS, and now carry my spare in the back. I'll be fabbing up an in-cab tire carrier for it soon (tire will be bolted down horizontally) and will be welding this on tomorrow for a BEEFY rear recovery point--

Hoping to pick up a cherokee this weekend. Won't be doing much of anything to it right away, but eventually I'm hoping to make it into a decent trail rig.

Friends thinking about getting an XJ for general offroad purposes. Any specific years / parts / engines / tranmissions I should avoid while searching for him?

Thanks

99 are the best year. If you get an earlier year get a 99+ intake.

Most years come with a Chrysler 8.25 rear or a Dana 35 rear, 8.25 is a much better stock axle. Some years such as a 87 come with D44 rear axles and are the best stock axle. Or a 8.8 can be bought cheap from a junk yard explorer and those come stock with disk breaks and are much stronger axles.

4.0L is a MUST, 2.5 sucks.

NP231 is a cheaper transfer case when it comes to rebuilding and slip yoke eliminator kits.

4 wheel drive is a must as well, obviously.

Check places like the unibody where the steering box is mounted to for cracks, and check to make the unibody is not bent.

And then all the common sense crap like looking for rust, going through all the gears, etc.

To be honest I dont see the point of snorkels unless you will be just doing mud bogging or deep river crossing. To get so deep you need a snorkel to be effective it will fill your cab with water and could be back for your electronics and whatnot.
