nah, its just a stronger type of annodizing, i think its what most companies use on their guns anyways now. i remember smart parts advertising it when the nxt's came out. "products now come stronger t3 annodizing" or something.

Is powder coating stronger then Anodizing ? That question is like which is better autococker or automag, Ford or Chevy .... etc.... It a matter of opinion.

Anodizing is etched dye into the aluminum at about .0005 to .001 thick and depending on what type of anodizing give it's strength. Type I or II or III, III being the strongest and will alter the tolerance inside & outside of the part.

My powder coating is done on the outer side of the part so inside tolerance are not effected ( which mean you can do over & over ) The coating is thicker then anodizing by about .003 to .005 thickness. Powder coating is baked on at 400 deg. for 20 min. To get a good finish really depends on the prep of the part.

Example

Which are all powder coated.
I can do fades.

Fades are hard to do but I have also done them, the hard part is its in peices and you have to have it line up when assembled... besides that ( very difficult) its just like a regular coating process.

Here is a pic of one that I did last week and I am going to do another once I get the 9/16 24 tap or someone to mini my other one. And powder coating can acheive amazing results with lots of colors

the only problem i could see is that if the frame was done, some of the boards and hardware may not fit

And yes Powder coating is over ratted it looks just like paint, but its a bit more durable. If there is an effect you want that anno can't get you I would powder coat. Not talking only Paintball markers, this is my experince with all kinds of alloys. Anodizing is better than powder coating but you can only anodize aluminum, powder coating is better than paint.
