powder coating

Is this a good alternative to anno? i think it is more durable and a bit cheaper. Will it work on most cocker bodies?

its not as durable, annodizing is actually part of the metal, so its harder to scratch.

Depends on who does it. I have seen some crappy PC job but I have also seen some amazing ones.

traxter: Powder coating is much like anodizing in that if you go through a good shop then you will get a good quality durable job done. If you dont go through a good shop then you will get crap. PC is much cheaper and is very durable but does not bond with the metal the way ano does.

If you do go the powder coating route then I would suggest KPCS. I have had several things PC'd by them in the past and can attest that they do quality work.

cars are painted with primer, normal automotive paint, and a clear coat.

powdercoating is more like annodizing. automotive paint is just sprayed on. the primer is there to help it stick. powder coating uses ionized paint particles which makes them stick to the uncharged metal, and is then baked to harden and adhere to the metal. this makes a very strong bond between the two.

anno works in a similar fashion, except the metal itself is actually dyed, not coated. during the process the outer layer of the metal is hardened.

Actually, automotive paint, when done properly, is done very similarly to powder coating. Either the car or the paint is charged (I forget which), and the paint is drawn to the car. This gives it a nice, even coat. Of course, you can still get a nice finish with just spray.

Also, powder coat isn't really paint. It's particalized plastic, essentially. You then put it in an oven and melt the particles onto the metal.

I powder coat and I can get stuff that looks like cheap paint but most (besides white) look nothing like paint... its also strong if its good powder and not too thick. If you guys have any more questions I can answer them.

you should stick with the most durable method since you'll be putting your paintball stuff to the test on field a lot.

powder coating is stronger than anodizing, prevent corrosion better than anodizing, is cheaper than anodizing, and is easier to do than anodizing.

I am almost positive that anodizing is stronger but all your other points are right.

^^^ Well, kinda. The thing about PC, is it's a coating, and a relatively thick one. It takes a lot to break through it and get to the metal. I believe Ken from KPCS has a vid of him beating a body with a hammer and not breaking the coating. This keeps the metal protected. Since anodizing is essentially dying the metal, any decent scratch actually gets to the metal. Sure, there's still the color there, but the metal is scratched. So all in all, it can be said that PC is stronger than ano.

thats true but most will argue that anodizing is at a molecular level...and its very hard to damage good powder coat

Aurora is plating; Chrome/nickel is plating aswell......You cant anno aluminium and have it become a differant metal

Type3 anno is a thicker anno as far as i know
