What would be a better deal than the Vibe?

I'm looking for a cheap gun for my friend to get into paintballing with. So far, I have decided the Vibe would be a pretty decent gun for the price... but I am forgetting something or some other gun? I'd like the gun to be no more than $150 new. Any ideas?

TIA

well the vibe is like $170 now, but if your talking about new than not much compares to the vibe in that price range. For $50-$100 more you can get new or used Proto SLG's, used PMR's, used Mini's, or there's always the spyders but alot of people tend to stay away from them due to cheap parts.

There is no better (brand new) marker for the money that is better than the Vibe/SP-1.. It has very good 'bang for the buck'.

Also, now that they've introduced the blackheart board, you have an upgrade path if you decide that you want more performance..

True, but don't knock spyders. I started with one and it's never let me down, keep in mind that I've taken care of it like it's my job by cleaning. re lubing and replacing o-rings every so often after every day of play AND you are posting in a Smart Parts biased sub forum.

Just my $0.02

I personally started with a spyder and had problems with it... ive known other people who loved their spyders.. but performance wise i would say vibe over spyder anyday of the the for the price range.

ya spyders are good if you plan on playing no more than like 5 times a year and you have a very small budget but if you want to play more competitive and invest a bit more in a marker that will perform better and last longer, go with the vibe or sp1 for sure

A used Ion would be my suggestion only because most of them are already upgraded with better parts. I have seen them in the 100-150.00 range. I got mine locally for 150.00 with a Virtue Board, Virtue eyes, QEV, Firebolt, NDZ feedneck, CP trigger and a drop/on/off asa so I'm sure there are others out there just as upgraded for the same money or less.

Well, I ended up picking up a LNIB Vibe for $115 shipped. I was able to save a few bucks but it's still basically brand new, so I think my friend will be very happy! I also got him a almost brand new Crossfire 68/45 for cheap, so he won't have to learn on, and deal with, crappy CO2 (like I did).
