Sapient understands

Over the past few weeks I've been quietly busy whilst creating a rapid prototype of a new marker concept. I don't have a complete marker yet, but I have the majority of it...I'll add pictures here as time goes on.

The 3d printing process is tough for making small holes and passages so a lot of finishing work is needed to fix the rough models. I'm not done with the finishing on any part yet, but I can show the eye covers to hold you over in the meantime....

The machine I'm using is a Dimension SST 3d printer. I've chosen the pale material up until now since it's reasonably strong and shows detail well. I have color materials too but they're more brittle so I didn't want to bother. I also have a resilient resin available that can hold pressure, but it doesn't show detail very good (and also the tolerances are much worse so it would take MUCH longer to create the necessary design). So pale it is.

I'll show one of these when finished...

More later when I finish the post work on the body...

That's gorgeous, Andy.

I presume you've put enough effort in, that the design should be both smooth shooting and very efficient?

A long shot.. but any hint on the platofrm? Spool? Poppet? PCP? Blowforward? Open/Closed bolt?

The bolt is something a little new, but let me just say the operation will be the least of your interests compared to the other abilities! A lot of that won't be apparent for a while though since it's not 3d printable

Is that thing fine to be used after only being 3d printed. I know that a lot of the materials aren't that strong to be able take the pressure. But that would be totaly awesome if all it needed was to be 3d printed, cheaper and quick to make. I bet its crazy light too.

Looks good

Gas through grip? Unless the macro comes out the side of the ASA and is not shown?

It better.

On field brownies is a feature I've always been looking for in my markers.

Air supply is routed through the frame, leading to a bi-directional vertical ASA (using one of my Beehive regs)

This 3d printed model won't be functional, but it could have been possible depending on the material used. Like I said the stronger stuff I have available is too testy to use with an assembly this intricate.
There are ways to have metal 3d printed (called Sintering) but the materials are freakishly expensive and it takes way too long compared to machining. That's good for low-quantity cast parts, or parts where you need some kind of internal feature that is impossible to be machined, but otherwise it's not a viable production option quite yet. I have faith in it though. It's basically like Star Trek, except takes quite a bit longer and costs much more

New picture of the body to hold you over:

It's too bad RepRap technology isn't far enough along to be able to print marker parts. When it does....

They are working on a sintering process right now for their extruders...

oh I will have many other things for you to test before this. I can't wait until we start playing again!

I'm not trying to promote this as a "coming soon" type product at the moment since it's WAY too far off in the future. Because of that I'd like to avoid going into specifics on its features. I can't speak much about most of them anyway since the mere knowledge has caused people to become horribly distracted which is not safe when operating a motor vehicle (that was my experience anyway).

Sapient thinks therefore it is... alive? Interesting. It does look like the breach area can hold a small rodent - I'm working on a gerbil flatulence powered gun as well, I call it project Lemmiwink... More to come... When PETA gets off my back.

I suspect it's a tad more original that that - I have my hopes for what it may be but I will not voice them.
