I haven't been in a few weeks now, so maybe he's raised his prices a bit since I have been there.
If you are talking about the prices of like things field fee, paint, air, etc, Pops is very reasonable.
Pops runs a business, and he has overhead just like any other business. He has to try to charge enough to make a profit. I am someone who has been in the paintball business before and I love to go play at SSS. I don't see his books but I can guarantee you Pops does not make his living from his paintball field. He may make a profit but not near enough to live off of.
Pops has a good facility (and it's getting better). From my experience as a customer who drives over 1.5 hours to get to his field, his prices are actually below average, for facilites that are above average. Remember when you are buying paint from him for let's say $65 a case for the really good stuff (he has lower priced paint too), you are also getting the facility to play on. He has a decent proshop, really nice staging area, nice netting for safety and spectators, and nice fields (the new PSP is excellent). Even his refreshments are priced really cheap, ($1 for a 20 oz gatorade is really inexpensive).
You could buy paint somewhere else a little cheaper, but what if you open your box of paint that you ordered over the internet and it looks like soup. Many of the online retailers would make it right, but it would take time and hassle to file a claim, ship new paint, etc. So your weekend warrior side would have to wait for another time to play. You could buy it from Wal-Mart but they don't carry the kind of top quality paint that Pops does. And Pops opens every case to be sure they are no problems with the paint when he sells it to you.
I guess what I'm saying is that when you buy paint from Pops you get a lot more than whats in the box. You get a lot for your money.
So if Pops has raised his prices a bit, I'll still pay full price and be glad to do it.
If you are talking about guns and other equipment, I really can't speak on that, but I'm sure they are more than fair as well.
Bob please don't consider this a attack against you, but merely a defense to Pops. His prices would have to have had a severe increase in the last few weeks in order for me to think he was overpriced. I hope to see you at SSS someday Bob, maybe you can put a welt on me to add to my extensive collection.
See you soon Pops.
