You'll be fine. I go out to Max sometimes and I always play pump. I do it at other fields too that play the same formats. The only problem you are going to have is people being upset that you are on their team because you can't lane.
This is a rough transcript from this past Sunday when I went
We all line up at the net, guy looks at me
Him: You shoot a pump? *sigh*
Me: Yes, what's the problem with that?
Him: This is X-ball, people don't use pumps.
Me: I understand that but I do it every weekend, I'll be ok.
I went to the same side as he did and shot out 2 folks so I had his respect at the end of the match and he was much nicer but just know before hand that you'll have to earn any respect there. Sometimes it feels better knowing that you earned it.
Then again, I had a game stopped because I was the last person in the back can (and playing pump) and there were some 2-4 of the other team left and one of the spectators didn't want me to "get hurt" so you just take it with a grain of salt. Talk about confusing, I thought I must have won somehow (maybe they all shot themselves?) but no.
I just go out with the attitude that I'm going to play paintball. I don't need anyone doing me any favors and I don't need anyone watching out for me. I'm nobody special. I don't run around saying I'm any better or worse than anyone else. We're all there to play and to get better so you ball like everyone else and remember there is no real difference in what you do and what they do.
