hes talking about the series, not san diego individually. he was saying that until san diego, ironmen were in the running to win the nppl series for the year, the fact that they had a horrible performance in SD is why they didnt win.

his point was that ironmen are a dominant force in both leagues. as is dynasty and a few other pro teams. obviously some teams are overall better at one format over the other, but generally, paintball is paintball. the best team that has the best players is always going to win the majority of the time, regardless of format.

Ewww, I hate PSP too... I don't think I'm going to play paintball anymore now that I can no longer play in XPSL. You may want to consider this my goodbye notice. Paintball just isn't what it used to be.

Yeah, because the Ironmen totally sucked this season in the nppl .

No, they did terrific all this season, in both leagues! Just because they blew at SD does not mean they arent good at that format, they just werent prepared.

**** happens.

DSSPAINTBALL/Vicious goes to San Diego in the highest division they are allowed to play. Not once did they practice the field layouts or even play 7 man. They even had some guys from their D3 team play SD. They have been soley a PSP team. They place 2nd in their first NPPL in Semi Pro. Shows what playing PSP and hard work can lead to.

I see a lot of talk in this thread about a lot of different things. I could throw in my two cents about formats, but I'll leave it at that both the NPPL and PSP each had their own strengths and weaknesses. To say that one required no skill would be to belittle it and the accomplishments of the players who participated. I think everyone who strives to compete at their highest level of play should be applauded for their efforts and achievements, regardless of who they are or who they play for.

I hope that people can understand the implications this has on the sport in general. The NPPL has been around for a very long time, and regardless of who sits at the helm, its absence leaves very large shoes to fill, and a great degree of uncertainty for the future of paintball in general.

In an ideal world, I would hope that the NPPL is not dissolved, but instead picked up by an organization that makes it's mission the growth and continued development of the sport of paintball. Achieve these goals properly, and healthy profit should be a byproduct. Putting those whose primary focus is making money at the cost of the sport in charge will only kill it in the end.

Thank you to all my friends that I have made over the years at the NPPL events. It has been a privilege and a pleasure that I will not forget.

section in the pb2x editor's blog.

Dave Youngblood (DYE), Lane Wright (PSP) and Rob Staudinger (Paintball Central), among others, are meeting in Las Vegas to discuss the PSP 2009 season. Prior to this mornings announcement (NPPL/Pacific Paintball LLC. throw in the towel), major discussions were to begin in the PSP camp regarding the often dreamed upon “one league” (one format, one brand, one league).

With the NPPL filing chapter 7 and liquidating its paintball holdings, Lane and Co. will be focusing on how they plan to weather the economic downturn (recession, depression, call it how you see it).

Ideas being tossed around include ending the NXL (as mentioned previously on PBR) and replacing it with professional and semi-professional divisions, increasing the ties with regional series (AXBL, CFOA, etc.) and patching up the relationship between the PSP and Millenium series. With that said, it should be noted that the NXL has been financed for a long time by Smart Parts and they will not be too happy about “putting that dog to rest”.

On the subject of brand names, rumors are circulating that the PSP is looking for a new series name that they can better brand on the industry. Apparently Procaps holding the X-ball trademark hasn’t helped the organization “expand” into new mediums and they will be looking for a new brand name. With that being said, word on the street is Smart Parts will be bidding fiercely for the rights to the NPPL brand name.

2009 could very well be the year we see an NPPL branded Xball format.

dk if this has already been posted.

News flash, if people don't get out and support PSP they are not going to make it either. 3 years ago "THE MIGHTY NPPL" would have laughed at the idea of going under. We may be about to see the beginning of the end... I sure hope not.

Why should the league pay the players? That's like saying the NFL should pay the players.

true. each team would have to have "franchises" and HUGE company/corporate sponsors. and paintballing would have to a a LARGELY participant sport where people PAY to go watch.
the fact that all we have are tournaments and not team vs team is a draw back to not getting pro players paid.

the only way pro players will be paid is on an individual basis. companies giving individual sponsorships and endorsements. teams aren't going to start running payroll for everyone.
