Pro football coincided with two leagues for a period of time, MMA, Wrestling, Hockey, Rugby, and many other sports all seemed to do well with multiple formats.

You seem to forget the way it was before this time period as well. I remember the same promoters in Vegas asking us to play on shale, rocks, outrageous heat, not providing any public water, I also remember the same promoters looking the other way as teams pre practiced on fields prior to a tournament with minimal impact (I believe a fine that was not collected) and the year ending with the league completely seperating into two formats based on the need to get it on TV. I believe the league for and about the players was the one that brought it out of the woods and onto the beach forcing the other league to begin conforming.

No one forced teams to play both leauges in fact I believe when it came down to it, more teams choose to play NPPL than NXL or PSP- look at the drop out rate over the years. PSP/NXL forced the decision based on the travel costs/paint costs/practice costs/squad costs for more competitive teams than in any other time in paintball.

For that matter the teams playing both leagues over the entire history of two leagues didn't seem to have a problem cross adapting their styles- those that were able to master this competed and did well. Those that didn't adapt either dropped out or made a choice based on finances.

What I don't understand. First you openly welcome the retreat from the woods and into the public eye, and now its the reason the league has gone under? Hopefully people would be attracted to it? XSV, Infamous thought the league was attractive enough to break ranks. Bob Long and LTZ both thought enough of the league to embrace it...

Deeper pockets and a vested interest in company survival ensure that this league will continue. No one company survives because of acceptance, they survive on bankroll alone- a venture capital company with no vested interest in a format or sport can easily walk away, thats why they are venture capitalists. A manufacturer in the sport will continue to throw money at the problem to ensure he's got a job.

I believe Chris Rhael would beg to differ, the XPSL, the OSC, Millenium, and many many other leagues would beg to differ. The support has to come and start at the regional level. We sustain competitive paintball in a structured regional effort with a young guns league through to the college years and only then can promote a true national proffesional image. Its done all over in some of the very sports you've compared paintball to.

And your entire post boils down to the one intelligent sentence in the entire argument. If you want more people to play, more gear to be sold, more paint to be shot, and more revenue this is the answer. As a big man its about the only format I can still play these days. But it won't happen- they want things to go bigger, faster, and tv friendly.

Look its a good thing this consolodation is happening. As long as the players continue to have a voice, lest we forget the infamous "I can put any monkey with a gun on the field, its about the league and not about the players comment from a well known promoter". Regionally we need to have a strong series of feeders unified under one heading. We need an id tracking system from the ground up, and we need to ensure that competition exists. Forcing me to wear a promoters product because he owns the league or I don't play shouldn't be an option. Options and voice are always a good thing.

As much as i hate to see the NPPL go, and its really a scary thing to see how fast the paintball world can change overnight with the econ.

But i think they will be a good thing. With the the econ is going, spliting up players/sponsors/money between two leagues just isnt gonna work.

I think this will not only put more funds and money into PSP, but more sponsors at major events, more teams, more money. I think it will make the sport look alot more professional overall.

Hopefully the NXL opens up and adds more teams.

Only time will tell.

No I haven't gotten my GED, I'm still in high school.

You're right, I do live with my parents still because I live in a small town and there's nowhere to go.

And no I'm not juggling financial aid checks because in Florida we have a scholarship for people who are going somewhere in life that pays for you.

But I'm getting tired of arguing, never thought the Nppl would go out like this, I thought they would prolly try to make one last stand at HB

Hopefully psp capitalizes on this.

Having a regional series like the NCPA and the AXBL/CXBL would be great.

Honestly i think psp is more spectator friendly, and its survived for a reason.

Im sure something will be arranged to copensate for the lack of NPPL...hopefully

Time shall tell

reading these 19 pages sucked. half of them were arguements. i want my 45 minutes back. jeez.

Meh good riddance. This is what happens when you run the businesses as poorly as some of them have been run.

I came into this thread feeling upset about the NPPL no longer being a league. After reading the past few pages, Im just pissed. The immaturity in this thread is amazing. How about we quit flaming about other peoples markers and skill levels that we know nothing about and try to keep it on topic. As for years playing, I know guys that have been playing for 15 years and still couldnt play speedball for their life. On the other hand, I have a cousin who started playing a year and a half ago and he was going to be playing D2 NPPL in 09. Years playing has almost nothing to do with your skill level and deffinitely nothing to do with the type of marker you're allowed to buy. Im going to go to Kmart and buy a brass eagle pump, if everything people have been saying is true, this will automatically make my years of experience and skill level go down significantly.

With that said, hopefully some top guys in a few businesses will get together and start another major tournament paintball league. I'd hate to see the whole 7man format go down the drain within the next few years.

If you haven't noticed MMA just lost one of it's larger leagues just the past month, Elite XC with Affliction close behind. Wrestling? I really hope you're not talking about the sports entertainment and actually greco roman types. But wrestling and rugby are not that large of sports in america, what is being said is a single league is needed for large growth. Hockey has the NHL and the AHL which is considered a minor leagues, kind of like baseballs, only people actually like watching it. Just as time goes on, feeder/minor leagues will continue to exist however from a nation stage stand point a single league gives a point of focus and growth to a sport.

Think of it this way, If you're a spectator that wants to start watching a sport but there are three leagues and each one has different rules, it becomes much harder for the causal observer to become interested due to the fact that they'll just think it's too confusing. Hell i play and it took a little while to figure out all the NPPL, NXL, PSP, XBall Millennium when i first started.

I know this is a big blow to a lot of people but this is a good thing for paintball in the long run as a whole. And yeah we lost a magazine, but all magazines and print media is having trouble competing with the interenet, just look at newspaper subscriptions. And I wouldn't be surprised if PSP expanded and added an event or two, maybe not the 09 season but the 10 season if NPPL doesn't come back in some form.
