They're '08's so they have to get them off the lot to make room for the 2009's. The dealership is actually selling them at a loss just to get rid of them. The price the dealer pays on escalades is only about $5000 less than sticker. For them it's better to loose $15,000 than being stuck with them and loosing $55,000+ or trying to sell them at auction later and loosing $20,000+.

Long story short, they are breaking a sweat, which is why many dealerships are going under right now.

I think they are probably losing money on this sale, but not $15k a car.

On a side note, my neighbor just traded in her 2006 BMW 330i for a brand new '08 Lexus ES350. All they wanted was $5,000 on top. So basically she got a $40,000 car for a ~$30,000 trade in. So even on cars they're willing to give almost $10,000 off just to get rid of them.

Seems like now is a good time to buy a leftover new vehicle, because the dealerships have some awesome deals going.

The invoice price is pretty close to what price the dealer pays on base escalades, unless they're a big dealer and can get volume discounts from the manufacturer. They actually aren't big money makers for dealerships, but they are (were?) for GM (as they don't cost much more to make than tahoes).

this is crazy this came up. i just talked to my buddys dad who just retired from GM. he was pretty high up. this excact car came up. he told me if a dealer sells a escalade at sticker they make over 20 grand.. he said they usually make atleast 15 on them on average.
