The only penalties I noticed were ones that were deserved, i.e. hit and playing on except the pack = 1 for 1 (I saw several of those), and major changes to the game while hit or majorly playing on resulting in a 2 for 1.

All be it, it was cold, and it did make for a rather difficult time, but it was a fun event, and my entire team had fun. Playing the final games of semi-finals out under the lights was an incredible experience and one I'm not soon going to forget. Thank you Cyndi and the rest of the GPL staff for running a great event and we look forward to next season.

I agree with both sides of the argue, i saw some bad calls, but i also believe that the refs were trying their hardest to make the games as fair as possible. The bad call that i saw was during a game before one of mine. it was 3 on 2 and the team with 2 was working down the feild picking the oppenents off, with the help from their third man. (double take) what? the third man in the deadbox was telling his team where the other teams players were at and the refs didnt penalyze the player. To make it worse that team ended up winning that game. I know he should have been penalyzed because i played against a team and the same thing happened and we ended up winning because of the penalty on the other team.

Field 2(7 man) was where we received a lot of penalties.. as if they had a grudge after we talked to them about our first penalty... we received maybe 4 1for1 on that field combined with our sister team.. and add to that..A teammate overheard the refs talking to other team about how we suck and we can't play **** after calling a 1for1 penalty on us that cost us the game.. lol. honestly..grow up and be professional. this isn't backyard paintball and people paid a lot of money to come play.

Field 4(x) had fair and honest refs.. for their great work.

I dunno about you guys, but i can hear the difference between 13 bps and a higher bps(say 16bps), and sure as heck a ref can. If a ref is standing right next to the guy shooting that much out of speed why not do something about it? why wait till the end of the game to check him, if it were the case that he was cheating why not pull the 3 for 1 penalty on him. That is a very serious bad way of judging a game, or just the ref did not want to take his FRIEND out of the game. (7-man game)

You can't pull a gun during a game.... unless you believe it is unsafe. GPL is 13.3bps ramp OR Semi uncapped. What if that dude was shooting Semi, yeah I know you can usually tell the difference between ramp and semi. Now what if that was your gun and I pulled you and assessed a 3 for 1 only to find out that your gun was fine. It's better to let them play and assess the penalty afterward. You're never going to catch everything, but you will make fewer mistakes.

Edit:
About the friend thing. I don't know who your talking about and I hope its not true that a ref would let a friend cheat. But, I've reffed a few GPL events in the past two years, I know a lot of the guys that play the events, some by name, some just well enough to say "whats up". Refs always know the players and players will always know the refs. You'd probably be surprised at how many of us take this seriously and want to do a good job. Of the refs I worked with this past year, I don't know anyone who would "let someone get away with something" or intentionally make a bad call.

I agree if the player had a real chance to see the hit. It was a snap shot, went in, ref pulls him and another player.

If he had a chance to look and didn't......good call.
If he kept playing....good call.

The other two:

Hit on the Back and Hit on the leg on the break out.

I am usually not the type to complain about this stuff. 7-man has a better chance of recovering from 1 for 1's but in 5-man if you get two of your players pull is tough to overcome. (5 on 3) especially when its the one side.

But I still love the GPL. I played it most of the season and have not had any complaints before. I looked forward to next season.

...I hope you know his is pbnation haha...home of the incompetent, where all threads get changed to pointless arguments, mostly because players are ignorant to the rulebook. Ha. Now I am sure someone will come in here and complain about my use or grammar/punctuation, and call me incompetent. Hate away...

went and played 5 man this event
played one game where we got a one-4-one because my teammate is a bonehead
so i filled the right corner
had a bounce off my wrist, snapping tape, and told the ref, "check my wrist" waving it at him (right wrist)
he went all the way around to my left side where my armband was to check my right wrist

1 minute later
skimmed on the head (right side)
check my head
goes to the other side to 'check' for the bounce

I know reffs make mistakes and all, but I reff at my field and I know that if a player snaps out on his right side, the hit is going to be on his freakin right side

I agree on this. Specially if it is just a skid on top of the hopper.

Funny, I never have that much of a problem with refs. If there is a bad call I just understand that its paintball and thats always a factor in this game.

It seems that the teams that aren't well versed on paintball rules have the most problems with reffing.
