"If a man walks in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer. But if he spends his days as a speculator, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen." -Thoreau

Hi Everyone.
My favourite quote is.
"When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry,
show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile."
Thanks.

If people read this without knowing where it was from, then the source would get sooo much more praise.

really just the first line, but i gotta put the rest of it just because. also see quotes in sig.
"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."
"In fact," said Mustapha Mond, "you're claiming the right to be unhappy."
"All right then," said the Savage defiantly, "I'm claiming the right to be unhappy"

But the best part of that is at the end Ryan ahhaha
So I skimmed all 3 years of this thread, and I was surprised to find no Kerouac in here. Here's a couple of my favorites.
"It was always manana. For the next week that was all I heard--manana, a lovely word and one that probably means heaven."
"All our best men are laughed at in this nightmare land."
"Maybe that's what life is...a wink of the eye and winking stars."
"This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do."
But then again, he's one of the most quotable writers I've encountered. So I won't even try to do anything more than a sampler of Kerouac quotes haha.

"Life is never about proving people that you are a good person...SOmetimes, the bad things matter. For in your dark side, you see people who are ready to light the road with you. It's not how many your friends are or how people roam around you, but it's how few of them accepts your being you. For in your nothingness, people TRUE to you find reasons to love you still".

"There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other."
"It's a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has a disobliging habit of speeding up."
"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
"To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
"As much money and life as you could want! The two things most human beings would choose above all - the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them."
"It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but there was all the difference in the world."

I have this one line quote that motivates me especially when the things I plan or done not work out. It goes like this, “I haven’t failed, I have found 10, 000 ways that don’t work”. This is good to make yourself feel better and keep you going after a failure. ^^
