If you missed the 2008 PSP World Cup, Let me fill you in...

For anyone that didn’t get the chance to either make the trip to Orlando or watch the 2008 PSP World Cup Webcast, you missed a piece of paintball history. That comment is not a joke or an exaggeration, it is simply the truth. This World Cup event was truly ‘like no other’. The field action was unstoppable the village was packed, the paintball gods defeated Mother Nature and most importantly this year the PSP delivered something to paintball fans and families that has seen no equal.

If you missed the 2008 World Cup Webcast go ahead and slap yourself, and then get your buddy to slap you a second time… Talk about Under-Promising and Over-Delivering! Patrick Spohrer, from Monkey-With-A-Gun fame and Matty Marshall from killing fools for years fame teamed up to bring something truly unique to this year’s PSP final event. This webcast set a new standard for broadcasting paintball, the production quality rivaled that of an ESPN broadcast. Seven (7) cameras streaming LIVE paintball to your PC, LIVE player interviews and commentary, Instant Replays, YES – Instant Replays!, Real Time Penalty / Player Stats and Scores, Q/A Relay provided by our very own PbN, Pit-cams!, Former paintball players as cameramen that understand how the game is played and how to anticipate player moves, not to mention, LIVE feeds to many of the vender booths for any fans that couldn’t get a seat in the packed stadium bleachers.

The stage was the NXL field, where we were once again blessed with some of the best paintball action in recent years. Last year’s finals match between the L.A Ironmen and Boston Legion was not an easy act to follow, but as always the level of play at World Cup didn’t disappoint.

Day 1 – Wednesday,
  • Infamous and Damage came out swinging providing the fans with some great action, typically winning by an average 4.5 points.

Day 2 – Thursday,
  • Infamous continued to roll teams by +3 points, with the Damage / Dogs game being decided by a single point.

Day 3 – Friday, (9 NXL Games Webcast - Free -)
  • #8 ranked Impact upset the fan favorite #1 ranked Dynasty in two games (each game was decided by a single point!) to advance to the semis,
  • Ironmen showed the crowd why they are the 2007 WC champs by knocking out Damage in 2 straight games,
  • Legion verses Infamous looked like one of the best match-ups of the day on paper, but evidently the Russians found a big box of Wheaties in the pits and rolled Infamous by an average 6.5 points per game.
  • X-Factor verses Philly proved to be most exciting match-up of the day going to a third game after a single point Overtime win by X-Factor in the second game. As the day was coming to a close and Florida sun light started to run low, the PSP had to make a quick decision to either let the teams finish the games Friday evening or to push the final game to the following morning. Due to the overwhelming webcast response, Lane decided to go ahead and let the teams battle it out for the fans. With a 8-6 victory, the Philly Americans advanced to the semis (as a tear of happiness rolled down Adam Gardner’s cheek…) (btw, I love seeing a man that has more money than I will ever make, run up and down the side like a Divisional Dad, yelling his heart out for his team)

Day 4 – Saturday, (6 NXL Games Webcast)
  • Ironmen advance against Impact in a 3 game battle, winning the first game with a slim victory 5-4. The second game went to a nail-biting 7-6 OT Impact victory, but the third and final game was a non-stop Ironmen charge to finish 9-0…
  • The first Legion/Philly match was another close one-point game with Philly taking the W, 6-5. Legion came out solid in game 2 to force a third game with a 9-3 victory. The third game was another nail-bitter going to over time where one single point would decide who would advance and who would go home. No Wheaties today for Legion, another Gardner happy tear…

Day 5 – Sunday Club (3 NXL, 6 Divisional Games Webcast)
  • Div 3 - Fierce Army beats Team Unlimited to claim the Div 3 WC Title
  • Div 2 - Fierce beats the NJ Jesters for the Div 2 WC Title
  • Div 1 - Vicious rallies to grab the WC Title with a 7-4 win over Palm Beach Vipers
  • Ironmen start off the day with a 9-2 win over Philly. Philly rallies during the second game to win another one point match, 8-7 to force a third and Final Game. Ironmen were able to get a solid +4 point lead to control the final game to a 9-4 victory and one Badass Victory Cake.

Again folks; all of this great paintball action was brought to you by the PSP and was yours for the viewing for only $9.95. If you missed it, (shame on you) I understand that some of this action will be posted to the PSP website (www.pspevents.com) for your daily fix of breakouts, dives, run-throughs, correct flag hangs…, Victory and Defeat, all captured by the soothing voice of Matty-Ho.

Cade

I loved having Rocky, Rich, Scuba Steve, and the rest of the players commentating. It really helps to have people that know what they're talking about.

Thanks for putting on the best webcast of a tournament ever.

Agreed, definately took the sting out of the fact that I couldn't make it this year. Hell, I was on the phone texting updates to people who were there. Definately the best $10 I've spent in a long time and without a doubt smacks the peepee out of any NPPL webcast so far. It was almost like being there except I had air conditioning and indoor plumbing.
Thanks again to everyone mentioned.

The only bad thing about actually going to play Cup this year was to miss the webcast... sounds like it was awesome, seven cameras!... hope MWG will have DVD made out of it, so I can enjoy it later....

You forgot to mention that the Saturday Ironmen-Impact game was 9-0 Ironmen in the first half. It was one of the most dominant performances I've ever seen.

Thanks to you Cade for being the "go-between" for PbN and the webcast/Matty. I think not having all the shout-outs and drivel clogging up the webcast was a good thing. Having 1 or 2 people filtering the questions worked very well. Shame we never saw you or Meme on camera.

Congrats to Patrick from Monkey with a Gun for another ground breaking effort for the sport of paintball.

Patrick, the PSP owners, the management of PSP, and the web casting team took a very large risk and spent an enormous amount of time, treasure and effort to put on one of THE best broadcasts of a paintball event, ever.

AND it was live.

Take a look at the 1st post in this thread for the many talented people that made this happen this past week.

Thanks to Cade (PbPick'Em.com) and Meme for interfacing between the live crew and the live posters at PbNation.

Patrick, you are STILL the MAN.

We’ll let you know the next time they offer this and you won’t want to miss it unless you are playing at the event.

Great Job!

Thanks
The Team at PbNation
