That has nothing to do with it. Generally the people you see are going to/from some kind of training, or are in transit to/from their home on leave from a combat zone. I have only ever traveled in uniform (DCUs) on my way home from Iraq on leave.

Only time I wear my dress uniforms is checking into a command (travel in civvies, change into Alpha's, check in, be told to change to cammies or whatever), or if we have to for some stupid reason. Only time I'll really ever wear my blues is at the ball if I go to it.
Our dress uniforms are uncomfortable as hell.

Iv seen kids wearing usmc, army etc. shirts that you can buy at Foot Locker or Champs in the gym and to school. I remember when my brother was home on leave at completeing basic, him, his recruiter, and I went for a workout. The recruiter sees the marine shirt, starts asking him questions about enlisting the kid was oh idk etc.
His recruiters like come work out with us we're gonna run for a bit, so the kid does. So we get to running needless to say 20 minutes later the kids heading to the locker room, we thought it was funny. I wasn't walking well the next day.

It bothers me people who wear them acting like there in the military. Don't get me wrong I have a few marine shirts, I wear them and if someone asks me I'm like no my brother is. It bothers me seeing people, it disrespects everything my brother and other service members are doing

I wear a US Army shirt, mostly cause my dad was in the Army, and im going in as a officer, so I dont think im disrespecting anything as long as you have a reason (though i mean like T-shirts not dress unis)

marines are not allowed to fly in uniform. i was told that if a highjacker was on board it would identify us as a target. we dont wear cammies in public unless its work related because they are for work not personnal work

Yea, no rpoblem in that. Your brother is in and you are supporting him and the Corps, no poser.
Underdog, you sure? When I left MCT they made the one's flying out travel in their Alpha's. Sucks for them I guess. I hate Alphas, pointless uniform, most uncomfortable too.

i read in a combat and survival book that they encourage you to wear civilian clothes on a plane, not even anything with an american flag or anything that makes you a target.
it sounds smart. but honestly id have no problem flying in my ACU or a class B if i was going to some type of competition.

That is something else entirely. That is the same training where they get the room on the 3rd floor facing the lobby of the high rise hotel, inspect your rental car, inform the gate guards of the douche bag taking photos of the base from off base, etc etc etc.
I take my uniforms off first chance I get... cause the damn things aren't cheap.

Marines fly in uniform when they are going to/from leave from a combat zone. I flew home from dallas to chicago with a bunch of them. What else would they wear? I agree though that you should never travel like that any other time.. I bet people do it to try and get free drinks/airline upgrades and the like.

Agreed. Its just clothing. It only means what you want it to mean. Personally, I view my uniforms as a costume.

Civies. Unless you're flying to or from a combat zone, you fly in civies. Only dummies who are going to SOI out of boot camp fly in their uniform.

i was talking to my grandfather a while back about the navy "when i wanted to join" and he was talking to me about why they got a bad rep. and he said that people usually gave sailors a bad rep because when they pulled up to port they were not able to leave the ship if not in uniform, so they would go out get drunbk or get into fights etc. and all in uniform and that got them a bad rep. wheather thats true or not i dont know.. just what he told me
