Im having trouble with homework. How do i do this.
Each number below is written in scientific notation.

Here is problem.
3.12x10^-1

1.624 x 10^3 my answer for this was 48.72 not sure if im understanding it correctly.

Another blank problem i dont know what to do.

8.24 x 10^4

7.13 x 10^3

How do i solve these?

Here are some exponets i dont understand either.

what is the value of -6^2
what is the value of (-3)^5
what is the value of (-2)^4

How would i solve these?

1.624 x 10^3 =
You would move the decimal point three to the left so. 1624.
Just remember with 10^x move x place holders to the right and when
10^-x to the left.
So with
8.24x10^4=
8 2 4 0 0

1624 is 4 places though.

when i count to the left i count 1.6.2.4 thats 3.

How come your moving 4 to the left? I feel retarded this is all confusing!!!
I might have to go back and attend the same class but the teacher does it so fast i cant keep up. graghhh

Thanks for your help, you understand. I might need a tutor or something....

7,130.

7.13 x 10^3 means you move the decimal to the right 3 spaces.

1 space = 71.3
2 spaces = 713.0
3 spaces = 7130.0

If it was 7.13 x 10^-3 you would move to the left 3 spaces.

1 space = 0.713
2 spaces = 0.0713
3 spaces = 0.00713

Or if you have a calculator, either scientific or graphing, you can just punch these in and get a straight answer.

Ex:
1.624 x 10^3

Punch it in as (1.624)*(10^3)

Hope this helps.

Skipping it for now.
Exponets what is the value of 5^5
I got 3125

5x5=25x5=125x5=625x5=3125 is that right?

what is the value of -6^2
I got 72. Not sure if correct i think so. Just ignore the negative sign correct?
what is the value of (-3)^5

(-3)(-3)(-3)(-3)
3x3=9
9x3=27
27x3=81

81= correct answer?

Positive and negative numbers.

5 + (-2) + (-3)

5-2-3 = 0 is correct answer?

-6^2= -6*-6=36
(-3)^5=-3*-3*-3*-3*-3=-243
When dealing with negative signs withe exponents
Even numbers for the exponents dealing with - signs always turn positive
And for Odd they are always negative.

Im trying to pass my G.E.D test. Ive completed 4 test out of 5. But ive been stuck on my math test for 3 years. I need to learn 12 years of math in 5days.
Heres the subjects i need to know a little about to pass. I have a feeling i wont pass again. Tutors are filled up, and i have 2weeks to pass or i get kicked out so new students can try.

Day 1 ( dont understnad any of this )
Decimals & Fractions:
Exponets:
Scientific Notation
Positive & Negative numbers:
Solve For X:

Day 2 ( don't understand any of this )
Order of operations:
Mean,Median,Mode
Ordered pair & slope.
Graphs & Tables:

Day 3 ( My current lesson, doing better then the last two days )
Ratios/Proportions:
Percents:
Area,Perimeter,Volume.

Day 4.
Angles
Square Root:
Pythagorean Theorem:

Day 5:
Substitution:
Combining like terms:
Removing Grouping Symbols:
Equations:
Word problems.

Im now on day 3. Trying to figure our Ratio word problems.

Problem 11.
A hockey team won 6 games and lost 8 games. What is the ratio of wins to number of games.

A.6/8
B.8/6
C.3/7
D.8/14
E.6/7

I chose 6/8s But the answer was 3/7. Still not sure how they got the answer for that.

Problem 14.
Find the ratio of 36 yards to 48 yards.
A.48:36
B.36:12
C.9:36
D.3:4
E.48:12

I chose 36:12 no answer provided for this problem. Im pretty sure i got it wrong also. The teacher does a brief explanation then goes to another subject so its hard for me to remember how he solves the problems. Which means i will most likely fail the test and get kicked out of school.

(x+2)(x+3)=?
I assume you are trying to FOIL two expressions. When you mulitply (x+2) and (x+3) you have to multiply the inside parts too. FOIL mean First, Outside, Inside, Last.

You want to multiply the First parts so

x*x=x^2 or x squared

The next part is Outside, so you multiply the outside parts, x and 3

x*3=3x

Inside, 2 and x

2*x=2x

Last, 2 and 3

2*3=6.

You add up all of these products together.

x^2 + 3x + 2x + 6

Then combine any similar parts

x^2 + 5x +6

Ok, ratios are basically a way to express a fraction. They are basically the same thing as a percentage. A quick way to show ratio would be a kill/death ratio in Call of Duty. You have your kills, lets say 20, and you have your deaths, lets say 25. Your Kill/Death ratio or KDR would be the kills divided by deaths, 20/25 which can be simlified to 4/5. You can simlify 20/25 by dividing out a common number. I divided out 5 out of 20 and 25 because it fit nicely. You could also write the same ratio as 4:5 or 0.4 or 80% depending on whether you need the ratio as a a decimal or percentage.

The first problem you had was asking for the ratio of wins to total games. There are 6 wins and 8 loses. This would mean that there are 14 games that the team played in total.

6+8=14

But they aren't asking for total games but the win to total games ratio. When they say "to" they mean to put a division sign in that spot. So you get wins/total games.

6 wins / 14 games
6/14

which you can divide a 2 out of both top and bottom which gives you

3/7

This problem requires you to read everything first because you have to a little math first before you can do the actual problem.

Next problem is pretty simple as it just wants a ratio from the two numbers it gives you, no extra math involved. They want the ratio of 36 yards to 48 yards. Replace "to" with a division symbol and you get

36/48

which can be simlified by dividing numbers out. I always start with a 2 if they are even numbers.

18/24

and divide by 2 again

9/12

now you can't divide by 2 here but 12 and 9 can be divided by a 3

3/4

Ratios aren't that hard to do once you get the hang of doing them. I sat for so long trying to think of a paintball example for ratios but Call of Duty came to mind first.

Thanks you're example help me understand my homework.

So this is another problem on ratio's but set up a bit different.

Says

What is the ratio of 65 days to 50 days.
A)13:10
B)10:13
C)50:65
D)65:15
E)15:65

I did what you say. I put a division sign where "to" is.
I try and divide them by 2 first.

65/2=32.5
50/2=25. So 2 don't work

I try 3's.
65/3=21.6666
50/3=16.666 So 3 won't work.

I try 4's
65/4=16.25
50/4=12.5 So 4 won't work either.

I try 5's.
65/5=13
50/5=10.

You can't reduce 13/10 So the answer would be A)13:10 am i correct?

Good choice on call of duty example. i actually own that game lol modern warfare and mw2.

My next problem.
A swim team won 8 meets out of 12. What is the ratio of lost meets to total meets?

A) 8/12
B) 3/1
C) 3/12
D) 1/3
E) 4/8

I will now try and solve on piece of paper, i will type my answer in a minute or more lol. time to divide by 2's first

Okay I'm doing something wrong lol.
8 of 12.

8+4=12

So 4 over 12.

4/2=2
12/2=6

2 over 6 isn't up there.
So 2/2=1
6/2=3

Answer would be 1/3 right or wrong?

Another problem for you to correct, you are good math tutor lol.

A men's basketball team won 24 games and lost 32. What is the ratio of games lost to the number of games played?

A) 32:24
B) 4:3
C) 3:4
D) 4:7
E) 3:7

So they wanna know how many games lost to the number of games played total. I add 24+32= 56 games played altogether.

so it would be 32 over 56.
I try my 2's first.

32/2=16
56/2=28
I try 2 again

16/2=8
28/2=14

I try 2 again.

8/4=4
14/2=7

I try 2 again.
4/2=2
7/2=3.5 2's don't work here.
So the answer would be D) 4:7 correct?

Wanna help me with inverse rates now? I don't get how to solve the problem. They give me answer but i still can't get answer on my cellphone calculator.

1) Daniel and chuck can pick 40 bushels of apples in 9 hours. If paul helps pick, how long will it take to pick 40 bushels of apples?

They gave me answer in the back says 6 hours. I try on calculator and can't seem to get 6 hours.

Wanna show me the secret formula?lol

How should I study for US/Texas Government? This subject isn't my strongest. The professor doesn't have a power point and I find taking notes in his class somewhat hard. I'm reading the chapters as well so maybe that will help some.
