Cranberry Juice

Right now I'm drinking about 46fl oz of Cranberry Juice a day instead of soda. Total sugar on that is 144g/day.

I noticed I've been losing about 2lbs/day since not drinking soda and having the cranberry juice instead. (140.5 lbs to 131.2 over a 5 day period, same scale, no clothes)

***WARNING GROSS***

I've also noticed my bowel movements have changed from very hard to semi-diarrhea.

It is possible that I'm just losing the weight in water and the juice is somehow dehydrating me?

My diet has been identical the entire 5 day period.

thanks for the help!

edit: my only exercise is that I bike about 6 miles/day at a moderately fast speed.

If i remember correctly, cranberry juice is a natural diuretic, which means it causes you to lose water.

Unless your drinking some kind of new crazy cranberry juice, you are getting a lot more than 14g of sugar a day. You are probably looking at the sugar in one serving of juice, multipy that by the servings per container. One cup of cranberry juice has 31 grams.

Also the only reason your loosing the 2lbs a day is probably due to the biking and your losing a lot of muscle or else you wouldn't be losing so much weight. You need to take in a lot more calories if your doing that much work and losing weight so rapidly.

And BTW this should be in the Nutrition thread

What? If cranberry juice is still made from Cranberries I'm pretty sure that can't be right.

EDIT: Arg beaten to it.

144g, edited.

Actually per serving this has 24g/1cup

Well...if I went down to specifics its 138 at 5.75fl oz/serv.

Losing a lot of muscle eh? How would that be when I don't work out at all and I've just started this biking.

Its cheaper than soda and I love the taste of it?

I carry it around like I would water. I'll always have some of it on me.

For comparison I used to drink a 2 liter bottle of orange soda almost every day.

If you don't work out then what do you call biking? Any physical activity is working out; hell technically when I walk to class and back I am working out because I am using energy. When your body does work; it breaks down muscle and fat to obtain energy. After 6 hours of biking, you are going to be breaking down a great deal of muscle and if you don't get the proper nutrients (an adequate protein/carb intake) you will not build this muscle back

I almost always eat noodles mixed with lean beef after biking.

Though I've decided to swap the juice for water due to the sugar and just eat canned/fresh fruit since fruit juice doesn't really count

Cranberry juice is definitely a diuretic. That's why people that are trying to cheat a piss test drink tons of it.

I don't drink any fruit juice. Even if it's 100% juice, it's still loaded with quick digesting sugar. I think whole fruit is much better for you because it's usually got a bunch of fiber in it and that slows down the absorption of the sugars.

Getting your nutrition from pills is nowhere near the equivalent of getting it from whole foods. Just because nutrients are chemically equivalent doesn't mean that your body absorbs them the same way.

I have nothing against taking a multivitamin (I take one every day), but it's most definitely not a replacement for a balanced diet that includes proper amounts of fruit and vegetables.

Not to mention all the thousands of phytochemicals and other trace elements that are contained in whole foods that may work together to do things for your body that none of the common "vitamins" take care of.

Stop drinking so much juice dude. That's a ****load of sugar that you don't need, especially if you're trying to lose weight. If you absolutely have to, mix 1/4 cranberry juice to 3/4 water to help give it some flavor.
