Hey Dan, I totally agree with the little reffing video that you have planned that or make up guidelines and then test them before an event so that you know they are legit. I think it is DEFINATE and will benefit the return of teams to the MPS if ALL reffs know ALL the rules, not only nationally but also as determined by the MPS guidelines. But what do i know? im just the chick with the camera... Hehe and an ex player/ref.... <3 Tiff

I found the little rule in the NPPL about equipment which blatently states that any equipment left for more than 5 feet will be eliminated. NOT INCLUDING: squeegies, the game flag, rags, FULL or EMPTY PODS. As these are not categorized as equipment.

22.02 Eliminations. Referees will eliminate players for the following reasons:

(6) Abandoned Equipment or Uniform. Player abandons equipment (other than
squeegees, the game flag, rags, or full or empty pods), on the field by more
than five feet.

with that im out. .. have a great day!!! love ya all Tiffany

i think what jamie was trying to say was that bad calls happen, and they happen all the time, to sit their and blame everything on one call isn't the right idea.

even though we had a "bad call" at mps 1, we also dropped our first game in finals, if we would have won that game, it wouldn't have mattered, we could have said screw the series, the refs and dan (but that is bad kid ideology) we practiced hard, and got better so that problem wouldn't come up again, and the results are obvious (even though we encountered more "bad" calls throughout the year.

the round robin format is brutal the "best team" doesn't always win, flag pulls, inobvious hits, and other rawr get in the way.. something that has to be dealt with

so about the whole pod incident, the wrong call was made, because a ref who was unfamiliar with the rules of mps made that call... nothing you could do, i saw it happen, would you guys have won the game? yea more than likely, but guess what... you have to keep playing your game the rest of the day... only thing you can do.. dwelling on it will only affect your play negatively.. but hey what do i know about bad calls and how to deal with them.
:/

Funny...Funny Clown huh? I sure hope I don't realize your on the other end of the field from me any time soon. I will be sure to show you who the clown is.

At no time was that game out of reach for us. Our RH tape was not cleared as you stated...Big J was on the RH side of the field. I never said anything about it not being a bad call, We had our snake guy get called out three games in a row for sliding on paintballs, we made the adjustment and put them boys in the box. Blame it on what ever you want, They Lost! As stated before Coulda, shoulda, woulda....But Didn't

Just a FYI we still won it with 2 alive...That's clearly far from loosing the game, so next time you "Think" you know something ask someone that really knows.

Big J and I have pulled off more 3 on 1's, 4 on 1's, even a 5 on 1's then you have pubes.

Care to elaborate on what team you play for and at what level?

Dan here is an Idea for more games for the L1 players

In the old days of the NPPL all divsions had 2 pro teams, then 3 or 4 Am A teams and then 3 or 4 Am b Teams.

Example Bracket A

1. Storm ( L1 )
2. Regans Army ( L1 )
3. Edge Army Stingers ( L2 )
4. Klub Kidz ( L2 )
5. BLV ( L2 )
6. Affliction ( L2 )
7. EA Coso Nostra ( L2 )
8. Havoc ( L2 )

This past season there were problems having enough Teams in both L1 and L2 to have finals by having divisions like this set up we will have enough teams for finals. We could have 2, 3, 4 brakets. There are a ton of ways to do finals just to long to talk about here.

This will go to a reffing stand point. The biggest problem with local paintball tournaments is the inconsistency of the reffs, one tournament reffs could be great, another they are just plain horrible. I think you "Dan" needs to find a reffing crew that will reff each event and pay them so much. Because having teams reff the events doesnt always work out. Thats just my suggestion to reffs.

I agree with Jake. Lol and since you suggested it i think that you should be one of the refs next year Jake. You would be fair and know a LOT about the sport and how national refs do things.

I think we both know that you’re talking about the pod incident that occurred yesterday. I agree with you that the call that was made was a bad call by the ref who made the call. I did find in the NPPL rule book under 11.06 (3): “…The Refere cannot put a player back in after calling a player eliminated…”

Even if that rule that you mentioned did exist, I seriously doubt the MPS would ever adopt such a rule because who’s to say what is “game altering” and what isn’t. If you had a series that re-played every game of what someone’s opinion was of a “game altering” call, that would cause so many other problems that would be detrimental to that event and ultimately the series.

Dan
dan it would be simple to say what is a game altering call. make guide lines at the beginning of the season on what would be considered game altering and what wouldn't.

thats a really good idea but if he starts paying reffs then all the event and series prizes will go down in value, because there will be less money for him to spend on them, so either we would have to take the prize cut or he would have to raise the price for entry and/or paint.

I would'nt really mind a small $50-$75 increase in the entry fee if we could get good consistant refs. But its all up to everybody else on that one.

is there going to be any mention of refs changing ruling apparel midday, or anything else for that matter?

example of my complaint: during saturdays gameplay of #5 rounds one and two, my team afflication black, L3 was allowed to wear our tall tees hanging. right before our round three match i was told to tuck the front only and i could let the tail hang out by the head ref, which i was more than willing to do. go back for round four or five and in the middle of a gun fight the head ref tells me to tuck in the back which i yelled "im in the middle of a f***ing game". walk off the field with nothing said to me. after round six something is said to me by a dorito side ref and when i asked why i had to tuck the back in he stated i was wearing too many layers covering my bottom, which if tucked in it still makes too many layers on.

and maybe a make something in the rulebook about apparel stating what is allowed to hang over/out, exessivley padded jerseys, and colors as well.

this would never work, seems like a good idea, but people would start complaining and trying to find ways to make their case seem like a game altering situation.

I’ve tried mixing L2 and L1 brackets before, I have too many L2 teams complaining in the past that they don’t want to play teams up a level from them for the same prizes. I think what will be different for L1 next season is I’ll increase the prize package event more. L1 is where everyone should want to play at and it is time I start rewarding those teams more who do step up and play that level.

It’s been stated before, having a full time reffing crew would ultimately kill this series. The problem is the cost to pay the reffs (fee for their time plus traveling expenses such as food, gas and hotel). Neither myself nor the field is willing and able to pay the reffs out of their pocket. As a matter of fact, we already had one host field post on this thread post that “Paying referees from somewhere else will not be possible”. So like it was stated by some of you other players, it would come down to you players picking up the tab which would increase your entry which I doubt all of you would want to do.

Quote:

You say that now, but I already have teams saying the series is too expensive to play. Plus with the economy taking a turn towards the crapper over the past several weeks, I don’t see all the teams this willing to fork up the extra entry. Not to mention, every time I hear about a team or a player complaining about bad reffs at an event, I have 2-3 times as many players and teams telling me that the reffing was good. If you think a full time reffing crew is going to be perfect and not make a bad call, your sadly mistaken. I am going to stick to my original plan of hiring a full time Ultimate Judge that will be at all the events. (I already have this person picked out). I will also TRY and implement a few other ideas such as the education video (if I have time).

Quote:

The very first sentence in the rules is “All guidelines contained herein are subject to change at any time without prior notice”. The reason for this is for cases exactly like what happened at the 5th event. There was a player who had an undershirt (under his jersey) that was almost to his knees. This undershirt was creating a LOT of bounce on shots to his crotch that otherwise would have been hits. So the reffs reacted with the right call by requiring all players to tuck in their undershirts. I’m not going to argue with your statement about how you were told, or when you were told, or why you were told to tuck in your undershirt, because it is your words against theirs as far as what happened or when they told you, etc.

So to answer your question about making a rule that prevents reffs from changing rules mid-day?? The answer is NO. The rules are not perfect nor will they every be regardless of how long we debate about things. Rules must be and will allowed to be change during an event depending on the situation. All rules must come through me though before they can be changed. For the 2009 Season, I will include in the rules about undershirts needing to be tucked in and I will be more specific on Jerseys being tucked in.

As far as the padding…. Already covered.

As far as the colors, I’ll talk to KEE about this but the reason why it isn’t in the rules now is because I never know what fill of paint I will get from one event to the other. It all depends on what KEE has in stock. I will see if they can improve on that aspect a little and have a color rule.

Simple solution to the tuck rule is to always tuck underclothes in and then tuck the front and back of the jersey into your pack. Too many bounces from clothing that contnues to get thicker and softer. Maybe the cost of paint per event would be cheaper if there was more to break on and less bounces.

pretty sure you can get most guns down to 13.3, i know in some its harder, but can be done, its either that or go back to just semi uncapped, no ramping

Also ref's paint checking in MPS#4 L2 my brother was in snake and a ref no joke pulled him out of his bunker to check him which caused my brother to get shot. Then at MPS#5 a ref said i was hit in the crouch which clearly bounced cuz i caught it in my shoe. Not all ref's are perfect i thought they did well except for those two call's other than that was a great series looking forward to playing the whole season L4 next year

Hey everyone, I’ve got some good news!!! The MPS is now on APPA!! I don’t have any dates set yet, but once I get confirmation from the host fields, then I’ll start posting the dates and you all can start registering. I’ve also got a commitment from guy who will be our Ultimate at all the events! I’m now in the process of working up an agreement with the field to get this guy, but it looks promising.

I need to discuss entry with you players. The bad news is, with APPA, all teams will be charged a usage fee. The good news is, I will no longer be charging the PayPal Fee! What you see in the event details is what you will pay… no more small print for the paypal fee. In order for me to pay for paypal fees out of my own pocket, it is going to require that the entry be increased slightly. I am proposing a $10 increase per player towards entry. This does several things…. 1) it coves APPA’s fee which is higher than what paypal was charging… and … 2) it puts more $$ into the pool for better prizes! Below is a breakdown of what I’m proposing for the 09 season. I’d like your feedback. Also, take notice that the names of each Level has changed. If everyone agrees to this small price increase, then I’ll throw out all the details for the 09 season here in the next few days.

Level 1 5Man Open - $350 per team ($70 Per Player)
Level 2 5Man Novice - $300 per team ($60 Per Player)
Level 3 3Man Rookie - $210 per team ($70 Per Player)
Level 4 3Man Beginner - $180 per team ($60 Per Player)

Paint will remain as it was last season… $55, $60, and $65 depending on availability.

Dan
