Sad to say but in order to get a medal of honor you need to die

No, although because of the heroic actions taken, that usually happens, but they don't always die..
Many people were alive to receive the medal. Of course, the recent ones that's not so true, but in earlier times, many people received it and didn't have to die/

There have been some pretty ****ing unbelievably heroic actions taken in the GWOT that I guess were only worthy of silver stars.

If you read some of the accounts of those who have received medals it will leave you wondering what the **** you could possibly do to earn the MOH without jumping on a nade.

Well it seems like to me that if you don't die you will only get a silver star.. but die and you get a moh..

And yea look at all the Iraq Medal of Honors... All of them jumped on a grenade .. well except SFC Paul Smith

i am so glad that someone has brought this up, there is no better form of bravery and heroism than what gordon and shughart showed that day, but they shouldent be the only men honored. everyone fought hard that day. IMO they should have let DELTA take the lead on that one and put rank aside. because Sergeant Sanderson the team leader had the right idea, to just take the prisoners back to camp and take the rangers back, then let Delta clean up. which is what happened anyways. we stayed in there too long. even LTC McKnight said that going into makahh market at daytime with no spectre gunships was a really bad idea. Hoot called it from the beginning at the briefing. it was a very unfortunate event. but things happen.. i hope to earn my own ranger tab after college and keep the lessons these men taught going

I think you've seen the movie too many times. There was no Sgt. Sanderson. That character was based on Paul Howe, but was a combination of a bunch of delta operators. And the Marines didn't take over the airfield. Their mission was to ensure food shipments reached the people. Food was distributed, and they left. Then the **** hit the fan again, and Rangers and Delta were sent in to capture Aidid and his top tier guys. Two different missions.

No Marines did a beach landing December 8, 1992 and secured the air fields, and some of the ports it was Marines from the 15 MEU BLT 2/9, I Think there was some Army Psyh Ops cats in there to .. there mission may of been to defend the food supplies but they did do a beach landing... Then soon after the Marines pulled out and the Army took over
