Project Ego 06 to Ego 08 <PICS> 56K Beware!
I am always working on some type of project and this is my latest endeavor.
I bought this Ego body from a pbNationer and just because I was bored and had some spare parts lying around (and purchased some others), I decided to do what many said is not possible. Also I love to tinker and try to be the first at something, lol.
As you can see on the outside it looks like a normal 06 Ego, but when opened up it hosts an 08 Ego Board. As closer pics reveal, it does actuate with either OPTO or switch. It just took some minor milling to place the board in and then a longer top screw to actuate the switch. Pretty much all the rest is a stock 06 Ego, except for the 08 Ego engine.
Next week I will host some vids of the marker, but I have to wait until a heli-coil kit arrives because the body screw holes are stripped.
Thanks for looking.
VIDEO: (sorry it was a windy day when I filmed it)

thats cool that you got the board to work, but looking at the title I though you were going to be getting the rammer/poppet form the Ego8 to work in the 06.
I'd like to do that to my 06 but I don't really have the time with the other projects that I have on hand right now.

yeah shouldn't be TOOOOO hard if you know what you're doing and how an ego works and have the right tools/time.
I'd be willing to do it but I don't have the right tools for the job so I'd just be messing up my 06 ego.

lol i imagin most people wouldn't even know what the little black one was without the name of it engraved on the side. It was the biggest Gas hog i owned in 92 You literally could hook up 2 20 oz CO 2 tanks on it (at the same time you could use a tank as a stock and one outta the bottem asa) and not get 700 shots outta it.

A different board does not make it a complete new marker.
Also looks like the opto sensor is not realy well aligned with the trigger.
But nice playing around.

so what you are saying is that if you put say a pred board in a slectfire autococker frame it would not act like a new gun, if you use that example you are highly off base and wrong
if you use a say 05 ego board (semi only) and put a newer on or aftermarket board in, the difference if you have never tried is like a completely new marker
just my 2 cents.........

Star Frame or not? Honestly I would have to take a look at the frame itself, no one around here has one that I know of...

Funny thing, I too owned or have played with many of those markers (but did not keep them all). My first marker was a Nelspot 007, and yes that dates me (22+ years playing )

By upgrading the board, you are changing the capabilities of the marker, no argument there, but changing the board does not make an '06 Ego in to an Ego8 - there's much more to the Ego8 then just the ability to change trigger activation methods and uncap the ramping. Looking at the most fundamental changes, there is the fact that the rammer housing is built in to the Ego8's body, as is the FRM, not to mention the use of the QEV block - all things that cannot be achieved with the '06 Ego.
To use your Autococker analogy, yes, getting the SF board from an '05 Superstocl upgraded with Predator firmware takes a fixed board with several firing mode presets, and gives it full timing adjustment, a selection of modes, and ways to adjust those modes. All well and good, but does that mean that your '05 Superstock is now an SR, just because it has some features that can be compared to the SR? No, because the SR is assembled entirely differently to the Superstock. Same applies here - the '06 Ego is very different to the Ego8.
OK, Coyut may have taken the title of the thread a little too literally, but to make a direct response to him that adding a board does make a whole new marker doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. Ignoring the Ego8 board for a moment, what have you got if you take an '06 Ego and drop in a Tadao Yakuza board? Would you think of that as being an EgoX, or would you think of that as being an '06 Ego with a Tadao board? I'm guessing probably the latter. Is that situation really different to this one? To my mind, it's a board and trigger upgrade more than anything, certainly not making one marker in to another.
