Thats cool that is a number one choice for you, I'm looking at going there as well, but remember, its not like normal colleges where you just apply and get accepted/rejected. you need awesome grades, being in good physical condition, be appointed by the Vice Pres or State Congressman, and be willing to serve in the military (Obviously lol).

I live about 10 minutes from there, maybe less. I've gone camping across the river from there and we got to hang out with some cadets and play football with them on Constitution Island.

So Uber, do you just sit on a ship and protect the merchandise? Or do you get deployed as well?

when you graduate you can recieve active duty in any branch, but if you dont want that you can just stay in the naval reserve
Also at my tour the guy only said there were 4 academies Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. At the end of the tour me and my dad kinda told him to not forget about you guys

I have a friend that is there, during the summers you go too sea. He was in Beijing during the Olympics and such.
And for all you kiddies, there's only 3 military academies in this country.
The Merchant Marine Academy and the Citadel are not.

you can commission active duty in any branch or reserves in any branch. if you go active then your job is obviously what you're doing in the military. if you go reserves then you sail on merchant ships (container, tanker, dry cargo) as well as doing your two weeks a year plus other training if you want to do the whole retirement thing. If a war breaks out then you're most likely going to be working on merchant ships which supply the military with supplies/fuel.

the citadel isn't, but mma is along with cga.
yes, we're the ugly stepchild of the service academies, BUT WE ARE A SERVICE ACADEMY. its also a lot harder than the other service academies and deserves more credit than it receives.
i had over 50 credits at the end of my plebe (freshman) year. we do 4 years of college in 3 and with the same budget that westpoint has for their lawn services. we also take legit science and engineering classes instead of political science/liberal arts. and one more thing, we have a battle standard. that means we had students die in war. all the other service academies do not send out their students.
/overly defensive post from my balls-4 watch station
