Let's see if we can at least keep this decent, post up your privately owned firearms or what you use on the job.
I'll post up two of my personally owned
Then there's my M4...

Not that I know of.
You can do whatever you want to the rifle you're issued, just can't be a permanent modification.

Have you ever had any problems with it jamming on you? Or is the AR reliability problem overstated?

people who don't clean their weapons are the ones that complain about jamming issues.

According to regs you can use different external components like stocks or handguards, but you can't touch the internals (although I usually upgrade my extractor to a stiffer insert). It also depends on your command and who you are.. a SGT or a CPT has a lot more leeway on what they can get away with than a PFC.

All you really need is a gas piston and you have solved a major problem with the m-16 series weapons. Well that and new mags. To be on topic this will be my pistol when I get back from germany.

People treat them like ****, so they tend to fail when you need them. We need a more durable design. There was a somewhat similar situation with the british rifle, which H&K fixed.

they suck. The springs wear out too fast, so if you've got 30 rounds loaded in the mag, and it sits for a week... you'll have a jam.
...which is why everyone either has HK mags, loads 20 or 25, or unload/reload after every few days to stretch out the springs.
I have only one HK mag, but I'll probably buy more before I deploy again.

lol I just noticed this what a choad
In my experience the stock mags work fine if you put in a better spring and an anti tilt follower. You just have to be careful to not mess up the lips at the top of the mag. My last job was as a weapons instructor, and we had thousands of beat up mags in boxes we used for the range. There were insane numbers of malfunctions out there, mostly due to either worn out lips or springs.

Generally, no but it depends on how cool your commander is. I appropriated a glock 19 from the IPs and carried it during my second tour, and I also knew some guys who brought their own pistols (usually 9mm since you can't find ammo for anything else). They brought cheap used pistols like rugers and berettas since they didn't expect to be able to bring them back home through customs.

The AR base needs to be clean. Too clean. That is the reason for its problems in theater. They make conversion kits to make it more like the AK, as far as loading mechanics. A real breakthrough, for reliability purposes.
