I have one question you say the lens popped out but did it break? I am trying to figure out if it was the retaining clips that failed or the lens itself failed.

i believe that both clips broke and the lens popped out of the mask. the lens didnt crack or break in any other way though.

I'm not bashing you, so please don't think that, However as another captain to a sponsored team, I'd like to know why you chose this route over just calling them to vent about the issue Directly?
I didn't really mean for the information to come out on the forum like this. I made the post on our website so people who follow our team could see the immediate changes we implemented and why. Actually, since the mask was destroyed, I was just going to assume that the incident was a one in a billion chance and not worry about it beyond that: other than changing masks that is.

The clips broke, the lens seemed to be fine.

Ah, perhaps SP will look into making the clips out of a better material. I am sure they will look into the issue and correct it

That's the thing with out the "evidence" we don't know what broke. It's sounds like the retaining clips were not installed and the cross clips came/fell out or at least on one side that happened. It's hard to imagine BOTH clips breaking due to being hit on one side of the mask. That would be a massive transfer of energy from one side to the other.

It's just so hard to tell even with the eyewitness accounts.

2) i believe it was a tourny grade paint since it was a tourny. the cold front got there a day before the tourney so any paint would have been ordered for what should have been good weather.
Tourney paint tends to do two things in cold weather if its not cold formula. Get brittle and break every shot turning a marker into a can of spray paint, or get hard/semi frozen. Since no one is complaining about chopping and breaking paint in excess at this event, we'll run under the guise that the paint was harder.

3) to my knowledge he was not chronoed after the incident, just right before the game like most tourneys. i agree that this is a step that should have been taken by the refs that wasnt.
so depending on the rate of fire, its possible that the shooter was shooting in excess of 280.

4) no they were both in the x on opposite sides. so very close range.
and shots occurred at a distance less then 5 feet.

It's unfortunate that these events happened, however I don't know any mask that can withstand the facts of this incident without some failure. Based on what has been stated, I don't see any reason anyone should NOT use a save face mask, and to jump from the extreme of a sponsored team to bashing a company openly seems suspect.
One player had an incident, and threw his mask in a fire with none of his teammates around to stop him, with leads me to believe that most of what is being discussed is word of mouth travelling through the team, otherwise those standing there and aiding in t he incident would have been able to prevent the burning of the mask.
To me some things just aren't adding up.

its not word of mouth. i was playing in the game when it happened. i was playing back center when he ran up to the x. we all saw the mask for a short period of time. we were just all sitting around our table refilling pods and diddnt notice what he was doing until after he had done it.

a little while ago i was tightening the straps on my mask or something else like that and I put a bit of pressure on it and the whole lens popped out. not broken or anything just popped out. it was properly clipped in and Ive had the same thing happen two more times since then just squeeezing it into a gear bag thats a little too tight.

when these masks first came out I LOVED them but since then they consistently fog on me in ANY weather, the foam has crapped out on me twice, the screws that held the visor in were ALL cross threaded on arrival and now I cant get a lens to stay in.

screw save phace so hard

The goggles have been sent to independent testing facilities as we speak to make sure the clips are supporting the lenses properly. Save Phace is acting upon this and is making all viable attempts to correct any issues.

The clips on my mask still hurt my fingers to remove. I wonder if their is a QC issue with the clips on the way they are cut? The screws that held my head piece on were not all the same one was a different in head size and thread. It kinda looked like someone reached into a bucket of screws and said these will work.

This weekend is my final scenario of this season and probably the last time I will wear my Save Phace mask until a Gen 2 is in the works or released. I will be doing a write up on my experience with them and sending to Save Phace.

This is the first time we have heard anything like this before. If the lens anchor and keys are installed properly, then there is no physical way possible that the lens could pop out just by adjusting the strap or applying pressure on the mask. Sounds like there may be something going on with the lens installation??? If you'd like us to look into this further, please send us the mask and we will investigate what the problem is.

Yes, the lens keys can definitely be a little rough on the fingers. What we have found that works best is if you pull back on the back edge of the key while pressing just one side of the tabs. This will be something improved on the Gen 2 mask!! The screws on the first batch of masks were screwed in too tight in assembly which caused some of them to be stripped and difficult to remove. Assembly has since been corrected.

THANK YOU. We really appreciate you trying the mask and taking the time to write up your experience and recommendations for future models.
